I am currently considering the BenQ Zowie XL2730Z at $549: http://a.co/3gKFjp3 Anyone know how the picture quality compares? The BenQ has a handy "S Switch" that makes changing settings much easier, so picture quality and color reproduction might be my deciding factor.

FashiThe BenQ XL2730(which I Own) Is a "SUPER" Gaming Monitor !!! That said : The XL2730 has a 1ms refresh ratio and than is because it has a TAN Monitor !!! The NIXEUS is an IPS Monitor !!! The NIXEUS IPS Monitor will not have a refresh ratio as LOW as the BenQ. I can SEE and FEEL(I know IT's Crazy But, I really Think I can feel the Difference In My MOUSE and EYE COMBO) IT !!! The BenQ is a Little Yellow on the Sides when TYPING, but, NOT AT ALL WHEN PLAYING GAMES !!! The NIXEUS IS MORE WHITE on the Sides when TYPING !!! I myself like the Color on the BenQ better than the NIXEUS even those the IPS Monitor Panel is supposed to GIVE BETTER COLOR RESULTS. The BenQ is Easier to Setup with BETTER CONTROL with the "S" SYSTEM !!! THE "NIXEUS - 27" IPS - 144hz w/ FREESYNC MONITOR IS THE BEST "DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR" - 27 Inch ALL-AROUND MONITOR YOU CAN BUY !!! BUT, FOR GAMING THE BenQ XL2730 MONITOR CAN'T BE BEAT !!! DON'T JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT ??? JUST LOOK AT WHAT THE BEST GAMERS USE - AT HOME (FOR PRACTICE) AND IN COMATISTION !!!

FashiThe BenQ has pretty bad color pre-sets, but isn't a horrible monitor. A trusted source who aggregates professional reviews feels that both the Asus MG278 and the AOC AG271x Agon are better buys than the BenQ for those seeking 2560x1440p TN in the high-refresh FreeSync segment. You can see his rankings here - http://wecravegamestoo.com/forums/monitor-reviews-discussion/15713-best-144hz-240hz-monitors.html#post1357728
The Nixeus uses an AHVA panel, which means even a bad calibration will give it an overall better look than the best calibrated TN in most cases, and the BenQ is far from a well calibrated TN out of the box. I'm a "wait for reviews" kind of guy, but I expect the Nixeus to wipe the floor with the BenQ given the underlying panel technology.

FashiThe biggest advantage that this monitor has is FreeSync. Unlink the BenQ you linked, this monitor synchronizes the frame rates of your graphics card and monitor. This provides for a more fluid and less choppy experience. If you have or are going to be buying an AMD graphics card then this or the Acer would be the best choice. However, if you have a Nvidia card or plan to get one of those then a G-Sync monitor such as the Acer Predator would be a better choice.

MedionWith AHVA are there better blacks as opposed to what IPS can do?

liscombcI am aware of what adaptive sync is, and the BenQ panel DOES have FreeSync. It's strange that the Amazon page doesn't explicitly say that anywhere, but other sites (including BenQ's) say it does.

liscombcNo. IPS, PLS, and AHVA all target 1,000:1 contrast ratio, and this will fluctuate based on the implementation by the monitor manufacturer and panel lottery. Sharp is an exception, as they manufacture IPS panels that hit 1,500:1 or close to 2,000:1, but for HDTVs only.

MedionThis is pretty accurate. I think this monitor massdrop is a steal, and I might drop in even though I don't need a monitor. Asus and Benq have not had very solid releases in the last couple years. AOC is generally cheaper than both and has better color reproduction and some of the Nixeus models seem really similar.
All that said, this is a different type of panel. It's very fast for it's type, but it isn't 1ms like the TN panels above. The colors should be way more vibrant and consistent across the panel though and the response time should be quite good.
What does this mean exactly? Freesync aside, as a gaming monitor, it should be quite good despite the 4ms response rate. Freesync and Gsync aren't really that great when it comes to 144hz monitors anyway. Both techs basically make sub 60fps look smooth on a panel by never delivering partial frames. If you are getting over 100 FPS at 144hz, it doesn't really matter if there are partial frames in there. You can't see them.
The strengths of this monitor are pretty great on paper: IPS with 4ms response Bargain Price Freesync for sub 60fps gaming 144hz for high fps gaming Gamut and lighting should blow away the aforementioned monitors.
The only con of this monitor is that isn't technically as responsive as the TN panels, but TN is always going to win in this regard.
