This was my first experience with Nixon's watches. I got to admit that beforehand I was very reluctant to fashion brands watches, but with this one my mind changed. I gave it 4 stars, and left out one because I had to change the battery about 3 months after I got it, which indicates that this one sat on the shelf for a long time.
Look, it's not the most refined looking watch. It's big, heavy, black and quite angular - but I love the way it shows it. for the price paid, I'd say it's a recommended buy. But I wouldn't pay more than that.
This was a great watch until I got into the ocean... I didn’t go but five feet underwater when I started to get moisture under the crystal face. Now I have foggy watch.
This is a nice looking watch, but if you want to take a surfing watch into the water... use caution! I will try to work with Nixon to see if we can resolve this issue.
Have a few Nixons - Daily driver is classic stainless/white Corporal for dressier days. Needed a tough watch for days when I'm getting dirty or on the tools. Really like the little details on the crown and band and the large white accents on the face make for easy visibility in dark or dirty conditions. Will be my go-to for down and dirty days and the tide monitor is a nice perk for trips to Sayulita or Bali
Watch arrived DOA. Uncertain if battery because box is labeled "surplus".
Instructions mention nothing about startup procedures, and reference a two crown model, where this has one crown and one button. Crown was out to the first position, but closing it did not result in a working watch.
When I attempt to register the watch on Nixon's website, the model is not listed as an option (there is only listed one anyway), and requires a serial number. This watch has no serial number on the case as shown on Nixon's site nor on the packaging.
It is a nice, solid watch, but I can't say how well it works.

Update: Over the phone Nixon offered to replace the battery if I ship it to them, which they graciously covered the shipping for, but the battery fee is $15. They believe the battery is the likely culprit as this is a model not sold in some time and factory batteries could have expired (even though the crown was out in shipping).
After some extended back and forth with Drop CS, I will be returning for a refund.
kmattI had to replace the battery in mine and a few weeks after getting it. No big deal and I'm happy I didn't send it back. The "surplus" after the color is what Nixon calls the style of finish. It has the "powder coating" type feel and does't have anything to do with the quality or origination of the watch. It took a few calls to Nixon to get that little piece of information.
Had the Nixon Tangent in the daily rotation for a few weeks and have few early impressions.
First, it is a large watch, noticeably larger than the Seiko SKX009 I have on while writing this. I'm a big boy with an 8 3/8" wrist, so that isn't much of an issue for me.
Second, this thing is heavy. My handy digital scale says 9.55 ounces [270g]. A point to consider. For comparison, my SKX009 weighs 3.8 ounces
Third, the bracelet is a bit cheesy with adjustments. One link was included and the pin pusher I've got did not have the oomph to push the pin, ultimately, I wound up drifting it in and out with a very small punch. The clasp has only 2 fine adjustment holes. The bracelet is the reason for the 4 star rating, otherwise a 5 for this class of watch.
Lastly, the overall styling is a bit angular and chunky. You like it or not.
I would definitely consider this a tool watch. So far, the Tangent has been acceptably accurate. Haven't paid any attention to the tide feature since we will not be on the coast until next winter.
Overall, the Nixon Tangent meets my 'needs' and I am satisfied with it. I would purchase again.
