Hm, yeah, your experience pretty much reflects my own. I realized what the issue was--the wired connection wasn't working properly and I took the batteries out to try to resolve it. Thought I'd resolved it, and that was when I was having the volume control issue. Stupid of me, but I had to run out and I wanted to post a quick message to here to see if I was doing something wrong. Everything seems fine now, except that the input will cut out sometimes, and I think it is due to the loose cord. I might go ahead and use your solution, Prizeless, except I need to use another extender because I sit back a way from this monitor. I also seem to have diminished the input lag while wireless by calibrating debounce.
Edit: Hm, PC went into sleep mode and the wired connection failed to resume after waking. Funny thing is that if I disconnect the wire, it still works fine wirelessly. So no issues so far with the wireless, but it's unreliable with a wired connection. Very odd quirk. I'm running Win 7, by the way.
Edit: Can't get it to work wired now, at all. It works fine wireless, but if I plug it in, nothing. No backlighting, no input. I've tried everything I could think of. Any suggestions? Faulty cord? As documented above, I've had problems getting it to work while wired right out of the box. But at least it was working intermittently before. :(

ApocryphiliacHmm that's weird did you try using it on a different a computer if you have one available. If possible try swapping out the USB cable as well. Hopefully you didn't end up with a defective one.

PrizelessYeah, I've actually tried on 3 different PCs (all windows 7) with three different cables. Software compatibility, maybe? It actually worked again, briefly, with the original cable. I made sure not to move it so it wouldn't come loose and it just stopped working suddenly and now I can't get it going again. I've never seen anything this weird before. It doesn't even make sense for it to be the cable coming loose, because if that were the case, the wireless would just kick on, but instead it won't light up, or register any sort of wireles connection, or anything.
Edit: Went to Best Buy, bought a new connector, and it didn't work at all. The Noppoo website has no driver support, but anyway, the fact it was working out of the box suggests it's probably not a compatibility problem. At this point, I think something internal went bad. Super disappointed. :(

ApocryphiliacYeah might want to try for an RMA or something. Sounds like a solder went bad somewhere or something.

PrizelessYes indeed. I will update according to how it turns out.
Update 1: I contacted Massdrop support a little over a week ago and after the weekend I received a courteous response from Henry, saying he would try to get it exchanged for a working model. I sent it to Massdrop via a printed label which allowed me to send it via UPS at no charge. Hopefully I'll get a new, working Mini 2M before long.
Will report back...
Last update (I hope): I got my replacement, which works well *most of the time*. There is some serious lag when it is wireless, at times. I haven't been able to figure out what causes it, but restarting my PC so far generally seems to fix the issue. If I don't feel like going through that, I will simply plug it in, or switch to another wireless keyboard that doesn't have the input lag issue. At least this one works flawlessly when connected. I also have a very slightly uneven base this time, but it's so minute that I don't even notice it when typing. The last one was perfectly level, but I'd rather have a working wired connection + the use of LEDs with unreliable wireless + slight wobble than no wired connection, even with everything else being a non-issue. Overall, then, it was definitely worth the exchange for me.
I want to reiterate that Massdrop's customer support was outstanding. With it being my first order from them, I won't hesistate to use this site again, although I don't think I can recommend this keyboard, due to all of the quality control issues it seems to have. If you get lucky and get one that works on all counts, it's a beautiful thing, but from my experience and the other comments here, it seems like it's the rare customer who actually gets a product that doesn't have some kind of issue.
