This thin little wire inside of an HD650 is what carries all of your sound, it is smaller than the width of a human hair. The connection is just a spring with a pin poked between 2 coils. The hd 600 line of headphones have been built this way for over 20 years. These connections are so small that any gain in conductivity you have across the cable are immediately lost before they ever reach the driver. For anyone considering this cable do yourself a favor, buy another pair of headphones instead.

Dj1001All drivers have relatively tiny wire that makes up the speaker coils. But better cables do change the sound. The only ones who steadfastly deny this tend to be engineers who have never listened. Same thing with power cables. AC goes through miles of shite aluminum and then a three foot power cord transforms an amp. Mystery.

Dj1001More to your point, the consumer can (and likely should make the case for) go further with a tear down of the actual speaker assembly to discuss the actual BOM for the parts in the headphone (specifically the parts used to make the sonic speaker) is arguably far less demanding than the sonic capability of a premium headphone cable.
