You maintain your mechanical keyboard, and you probably do a pretty good job. Every time a keycap gets worn out or loses its luster, you replace it, usually with the plastic key pullers that come with the set Read More

If this is anything like the MKC Stainless Steel Keycap Puller, which it looks like it is, then be warned that it is extremely easy to break. In fact, mine originally came broken (which Massdrop did replace very quickly). The metal "whisks" are attached to the metal handle in a very flimsy way. After normal use, it is very easy to accidentally snap one of the sides off from the handle's base.
Nice. That is a lot better than my solution. I just covered the thing in epoxy. I don't think it will ever come apart, but it looks like there is a large pile of snot around the joint between the handle and wire.
reincloudGiven the lack of response from Massdrop it's probably the old version. If you look at the last picture you can see the discoloration at the base of the wires as mentioned in another comment and it looks like it is welded on there. The handle has the texture from the newer version though to add to the confusion.
mine just broke. it's the first keypuller i have ever had break on me. granted, i can probably put it back together with some type of epoxy, but i'm almost thinking it's smarter to stick with the plastic ones that seem more reliable.
I think we're going to need a lot more information on the company "NPKC". In the last week, there has been a drop on what appears to be the holy grail of 60% keyboards, and now this keycap puller which looks fantastic for the price, both made by this mysterious company. Googling NPKC yields nothing, and it seems kind of strange for a completely unknown company to suddenly start producing good equipment. As a concerned buyer, I think massdrop has an obligation to figure out what this company is so we don't get burned.
Dear MD.
My love finally broke.
It was a romantic relationship.
I would kindly guide the puller over each of my caps slowly until I felt that familiar snap as each arm wrapped my caps in a deeply passionate embrace. Then as two soul mates become one, my fingers, its wire arms, we pull in final unison until an explosive release fulfills us!
Sadly my love only lasted 167 times.
She fell from my sweaty grasp during an evening of numpad foreplay onto my hardwood floor and I heard the snap, my heart dropped, cap still pinched between my fingers. The silence that followed was piercing but not nearly as deep as the thought of having to go back to the butter knife...I will not survive this tragic loss.
tahoeriderthe new one is great. the wire is now well attached to the handle and doesn't come off now. just got mine from the last drop. lucky to get the new version but still feel bad to the first people that got the older version.
EDIT: been using it every week to clean my boards and I have 3 boards and 3 keysets to remove every week and the puller is still good. haven't broken or detached itself from the handle yet. just to let you know :D
tahoeriderI bought two of the new style pullers. Curiosity got the better of me; I just had to try the improved version.
I've outright abused one of them -- Took a piece of steel the width of a keycap, placed it through the wire loop and *tried* to break the puller by pulling on it. I don't know exactly how much force I applied, but I was pulling as hard as I could, and I'm a big dude...
I've been using the new ones regularly for just over two months - including removing Signature Plastic Alps keycaps from Matias switches, which utterly destroyed one of the earlier revision puller I had.
The new design has, for me, been completely solid.
