They seem to make original price way higher to make it look like it's a good deal.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Have you bought one? If so, how is it?

So the ESD version is a strapless solution... Just incase there's anyone who doesn't know better and reads my comment... Strapless or no connection ESD/static protection doesn't work. You need to be wearing a grounding wrist strap while you use the ESD model and hope the conductive plastic is used in the grip and through the entire thing. The blower is protected because it grounds the chassis and attachments to the ground pin on the power cord. The strap is to keep you from zapping things. A resistor does not make for ESD protection. I have the DataVac 500 and the DataVac ESD-500. The ESD version is real and you have to wear the strap and and connect it to the ground screw. The ESD DV is the only one that goes inside cases of electronics.

I looked at these, then I saw the comments on the DataVAC, thanks! I will be ordering a cheaper and seemingly better solution elsewhere.

The Metro Datavac ESD Safe Electric Duster - Model ED-500ESD is $92.01 shipped and sold by Amazon.com, and is a better value for your money in every way. It's ESD safe, so it's $17.98 cheaper than the ESD version of this one. Not to mention it doesn't have an internal non-replaceable battery in it, so it's not going to croak on you in a year or two if you use it often (as you should). It's also a fairly well known and trusted brand for electronics cleaning. If you're serious about buying this kind of product, do yourself a favor and get the ESD Datavac.

I've never purchased something like this before, but it looks like DataVac is less expensive and has a better reputation. What's the point of this?

There really isn't a point to this since it uses an internal, non-replaceable battery in it and is the same price as the high-tier ESD safe DataVac. The Metro Datavac ESD Safe Electric Duster - Model ED-500ESD is $92.01 shipped and sold by Amazon.com, and is a better value for your money in every way.
