Order from KBDfans.com. I ordered an aluminum case for my Anne Pro2, and another one for my ducky one 2 mini. (Separate cases as one has Room for the battery in the Anne Pro2. But long story short, I paid the $15 for rush shipping from China. It was at my doorstep in South Carolina in 3 days flat. I can't even get that fast of shipping from California lol. But if you don't pick $15 shipping, it could take 2 months and the chances of it getting lost start to go up so for the money I saved ordering straight from China. Paid for the extra shipping plus more.
VarholiaglimpI mean, you can always desolder a default set and then solder in the ones you like—or buy one from someone who's modded it to be hotswap. But it would be great if there were more switch options just out of the box.
Estimated ship Aug 5, 2019, $75 for Gateron, $85 for Kailh...
There are Gaterons for $77 on AliExpress and $80 at Flashquark, and Kailhs for $80 at Flashquark and $90 on Banggood and AliExpress. No point in paying basically the same price (or even a little more) for the privilege of waiting over two months for it to ship.
I honestly don't get the point of doing a drop if you can't offer a... you know... meaningful drop in price. It's like they're just counting on being able to sucker people in who don't know where else to look.
Got the white with Gateron Reds for $70 total (incl. shipping and tax handling) from Banggood, so it's not an actual drop imo. Not to mention that you don't have to wait for 3 months to get it. Kinda disappointing from Massdrop, I thought the site is made for selling stuff cheaper.
and last question, how it is with fire retardancy of the materials? i am smoker, so if a cig touches my current keyboard for a longer time (microsoft one), keycap goes to trash but I can still type with "quite" comfortably by pressing soft membrane subber hill/dome/nipple/how do you call it, which remained...
Just an FYI - I use a black one as my daily driver. The key labels are hella hard to read without the backlight in a somewhat dim room. Also, the Bluetooth is somewhat buggy; about once or twice a day it'll act like I'm holding down a key until I press another.
how long does the battery really lasts in real-life scenario? for me, 8 hrs means i'd need to charge it every night, which is... well, not what i'd want.
tivasykThis is a little after the fact, but you may find it useful if you choose to buy one of these elsewhere. I think that 8 hours sounds about right. I use mine primarily with a secondary system, so it doesn't see a whole lot of use. That being said, I tend to go a couple of weeks at a time between charges. I only use it for maybe 30-45 minutes at a time, so I think that 8 hours probably sounds about right. If you really want a longer battery life you might be able to swap in a higher capacity battery. It's super easy to swap the batteries on these things, and it's fairly common for people that are swapping cases to change the battery to something a bit lower profile. Your main constraint will be how much space you have in the case, but I think it's conceivable that you might be able to find a larger capacity battery for the AP2.
Of the 6 switch options, can you folks make any recommendations? Differences between Gateron and Kailh? Differences between Brown, Blue, and Red? Keyboards are a new area for me. Need some education. 🙏🏼
Maybe I’m misunderstanding “tactile” then? I was imaging keys with a slight resistance initially, then a bump as it releases and descends toward contact. Maybe you folks can clarify what “tactile” means?
To me “linear” implies very little initial resistance at all. Maybe I’m imagining these incorrectly. I’ve never tried those sample button kits before so this is all new to me.
glennacSorry for the late response. You're basically correct in your conception of linear vs tactile. The reason I mentioned that linear would likely be the quietest possible option has to do with the way the types of switches operate. A tactile switch will have a notch formed into the stem of the switch. It's the action of this notch interacting with something on the housing (typically a stationary bar) that causes the resistance and tactility. I'd recommend doing some googling for a visualization. Linear switches, on the other hand, have nothing on the stem or housing to impede actuation, which results in a straight up and down (or linear) motion.
The reason I said that linear switches will likely be the quietest option possible is that the resistance found on a tactile switch may cause you to bottom out harder or it may even make a slight noise as you move past the tactile event. I would say that any difference in volume between linear and tactile switches would be negligible, at best, but I'd say that if you want the absolute quietest switch possible, it'll probably be linear. It's important to keep in mind that all mechanical switches are going to be considerably louder than a membrane keyboard, so quiet is a relative term.
I also realized that my mention of clicky switches in the prior comment was a bit out of place. My intention in mentioning them was simply to say that the box clicky switches that I have tried have been much more pleasant than more traditional, MX style clicky switches that I have used, and that I wouldn't necessarily take them out of consideration due to noise. Yes, they're louder than linear or tactile switches, but I find the click noise on box clicky switches to be much more tolerable than some of the alternatives. If you want a very tactile experience, it's possible that you might actually prefer clicky switches.
You might as well buy this from BangGood or AliExpress. The wait time is gonna make me itch. I ordered mine on AliExpress and it arrived in 10 days. Plus you can apply coupon codes using the Honey Chrome Extension.
