The majority of the price comes from the machine time and finishing not from the base material. We took the philosophy during the development that we would not compromise on the design to make it easier or faster to produce. For example the outer surfaces that appear flat are in fact slightly curved so that they can reflect light in a more pleasing way and feel better in the hand. Due to this philosophy it takes 3hrs to CNC machine the shape from solid billet, after which its hand polished, sand blasted and then hard anodized. This is the only way to achieve the level of detail and quality feel that we wanted.
If we where happy to accept a lower level of detail and quality we could have produced it for a lower cost but that is not what we where going for. There is plenty of that on the market already.
It may not be every guys cup of t̶e̶a̶ whisky, but for some it is, which can be shown by the vast majority of our customers that are happy with the product.
Quality control, warranty and after sales service are also a factor in pricing, we strive to provide these at high level also.
Thanks for the consideration, Luke from Obtainium.
totally awesome wallet. totally not worth the money. that's a shame. I would love to own one, but I would never pay $135. Maybe if it had a built in flashlight, multitool and lockpick set, at the same size.
I own this wallet from the Kickstarter. I absolutely love it. Was it worth the price? Ehhhh.... only because theres nothing else like it to me. It always seemed incredibly expensive for what it was. But again, its amazing. And I think the creators know it. But still, only so many people are willing to spend so much.
Another thing to keep in mind is that despite every single picture showing one of them in BLACK, black is not actually a color choice in this drop. Obtainium charges more for the black.
