I didn't care much for my OHTO Dude until I tried a bunch pens from Wing Sung and Jinhao. OHTO is way better than any of those in my experience, and I appreciate the Dude more now. The other thing that really upped my appreciation was using an ink other than the supplied black cartridges. I cleaned and refilled with Diamine Blue-Black and it's like a whole new writing experience. I am now quite happy with the OHTO Dude as a 'no biggie if I lose it' daily writer.

There's a more positive (and more detailed) user review here:
http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/282528-ohto-dude-silver-in-the-raw/
Most of the complaints I see about this pen all tend to revolve around the nib. It seems quality control and consistency in that area isn't exactly OHTO's strong point, and it's somewhat of a lucky dip as to whether you get a smooth reliable writing nib or not.
Also check out the photo's in the review which show another potential issue some will have with this pen - the rather dopey name of this model is written clearly on the cap! I would have been more forgiving of the name if they hadn't felt the need to plaster it on the pen itself :)

The name is just printed on. You can scratch it off with a fingernail.

I just received my OHTO Dude order, attached the supplied cartridge, and the nib seemed to be skipping, working very dry. I took out a bottle of Monteverde ink and dipped the nib, and it started writing and drawing much more smoothly. So, I dumped the cartridge in the trash, and attached a standard converter and filled it with the Monteverde ink, and now it writes and draws just fine! These pens have a nice weight and I really like the design of the aluminum body, especially the deep violet color I ordered!

To those who were asking a while ago - the standard narrow opening converters fir the OHTO, but a few of them are a tight fit in the barrel, so I recommend checking a converter both for the fit in the feeder opening and in the barrel.

My pens arrived today, and credit where credit is due, Asendia handed off to Canada Post who made it on the estimated delivery date. One inked, nib a bit scratchy, but can likely be smoothed. Nice looking pens, comfortable to hold. Another good purchase from Massdrop.

These arrived today and so far I'm very pleased. There are a few tiny flaws in the finish that only a finicky person would even notice, but the feel and weight of the pen is very good and the nib is pleasantly smooth.

What kind of converter works best with these pens? I've tried a couple versions of international converters. The barrel of one was too thick to go into the barrel of the pen and the opening of another was too wide.

Probably the most standard of standard international converters would have to be the Schmidt K5 Converter, since many pen manufacturer's use rebranded Schimdt K5s as their own brand's standard converter.
I've seen at least one user report that says a K5 worked with their OHTO Dude.
@DSpaceNine - no surprise the Lamy Z26 didn't work since Lamy converters are proprietary and only intended to fit their own pens.

For anyone still interested in an answer to this:
" The nib and feed are standard friction-fit #5s, so can be easily replaced if you want something more exotic or a different size. "

is there a difference between the International short standard cartridges/converters and the international standard converters/cartridges as described in the other Ohto set?
