Fantastic price for a great telephoto zoom. I bought the teleconverter only because this lens had a fixed f/2.8, and that even with the teleconverter everything is weathertight makes it much easier to bring places I didn't like to bring my Canon and Tamron VC 70-300. This lens does not have the Tamron's range on APS-C, but I prefer crops from this lens to uncropped images from the Tamron. The lens hood is a joy thanks to several tiny ball bearings, but due to unnecessarily rough handling in the field I have broken one hood already (got to see the ball bearings in person). Fortunately the hood is only about $40 to replace, which I consider reasonable compared to some other original camera parts. 25% cheaper sounds closer to what it should be, but at least it wasn't backordered. If I thought my company needed another one I'd be on this drop.

Hi i am new to massdrop - the price as is would be great here for me in Germany. But i estimate that i would have to take the customs into account that would make it a much less of a deal to me. And additionally i cant find any info on shipping costs. Is there a tool to calculate all thos info here at massdrop? Thanks guys

This is an incredible deal. I would pay extra for a warranty. I bought mine a few years ago and it's fantastically sharp. Only problem is that it's big and heavy for a m4/3 lens, especially with the hood extended. Clever collapsing hood design though.

Since the EM1X is severely overpriced for what it offers, I would tend to agree with you. The more savings, the better.

Massdrop does not deal with used items. It's new, but international spec, so you will not have a warranty. You will have Massdrop's 30 day coverage for DOA and defective merchandise.

What mount type is this lens? I know Olympus generally makes m4/3 mounts but I don't see anything calling m4/3s specifically. Also, does the lens offer any stabilization?

Yes, if your body has its own stabilization you wouldn't likely want the lens to be separately stabilized...not sure if those can play nice together or not, especially from different brands.

The product photo for the Olympus 40-150mm lens shows an Olympus filter mounted on the lens. Is this filter included if I purchase this lens?

Can't recommend this lens enough for nature and sports photography. It's fast, sharp, and gets in close. I got mine last year as a pre-owned from Adorama or BHPhoto.

I’ve bought this lens and it arrived perfectly packed in pristine condition. The lens behaves as expected: just fine. Two points small remarks: I am in Europe so custom clearance fees were applicable. And, the lens arrived in a box which suggested it contained a Olympus M. Zuiko Digital 1.4x Teleconverter but it didn’t. Will there be a massdrop for the converter soon?

Massdrop previously had a drop for the teleconverter. Find the old drop and indicate your interest and they might revive it. I don't know why they didn't include the TC as an option for this drop.

I got this lens here and then found same lens brand new (also international) on Ebay with free shipping for $840. Moral - do your research, just because you are here it doesn't mean bargain.

I'd rather buy from Massdrop than some unknown seller on ebay. For many of us, the extra $40 (for a lens worth $1000) is worth it.

That seller on ebay had very high rating and no complaints whatsoever. It also showed that they already sold a couple of hundred of these lens. So I would not consider it high risk. I also have experience buying other lens from ebay from similar company and I never had any trouble. All you have to worry about is the time it takes for the package to arrive via international mail. I am not saying that you should buy everything elsewhere, just don't assume that everything is a bargain just because it is listed here on MassDrop

I understand that this lens does not have an Olympus U.S.A. Warranty. But if the lens needs repair in the future will Olympus repair it at my expense, or will they just refuse to repair an “international spec” lens? And is this the same as Grey market?

International spec is grey market. If you are concerned, purchase a 3rd part warranty (e.g., Square Trade). Total cost is still cheaper than a new one.

Yes. Lenses for mirrorless systems may rattle because of their designs, that must meet requirements for contrast detection. Sigma lenses for some mirrorless systems rattle even more.

Just had to pay customs clearance on this for it to enter the UK at a cost of £148.
Can't say that I am happy about this! Things like this should be noted as an exact figure before people check out, it can't be that hard to work out prior to shipping.
I didn't have to pay for customs clearance with my last Massdrop purchase?

Customs vary from country to country and the same country can change their customs tax. Massdrop can't keep track of all of that - it is the purchaser's responsibility to figure out what customs fees might be charged.

I have one, it's not bad. Works pretty well on my GH4. I mean it's no worse than using an SLR lens like a 70-200 on a 5D. Like how are you filming? Most folks serious about it will be running audio through an external mic, boom, or elsewhere so it doesn't matter if the camera makes some sound.

That doesn't matter since the tripod mount is on the lens itself.
Most folks two hand this anyway. If I were shooting with a Canon 1Dx and a 70-200mm 2.8, it'd be the same issue. Holding it by the tripod mount on the camera.

FYI, I have this lens and it is truly fantastic. Full automatic or manual focus with excellent detail. I don't think I will ever outgrow this lens!
Also, for anyone concerned about stabilization; Olympus and some Panasonic bodies have in-body stabilization which works well with this lens; especially given how fast it is. I believe Olympus has the best in-body stabilization.
Finally, for those worried about not having a full warranty; this lens is built very tough and I would expect it to prove very reliable absent serious abuse!

I have this lens and love it. Beats the panasonic for build quality alone. The built in lens shade retracts and allows access to lens cap, then simply pull it back in place. It will accommodate a filter like a variable ND and the shade still operates. Its a fast lens and sharp as a tack. And the extra length over the Panasonic 40-100 is a huge plus. This is now one of my favorite goto lenses.

I have this lens and paid $1300 for it. I use it on my GX8 and Blackmagic. I love it. It's super sharp, well-built, and the mid-body tripod mount makes a great grab handle if not mounted.
