One Drop is a great company, really awesome people working there and it's all made in the USA. The Benchmark series is One Drops line of affordable metal YoYos that are well worth the price. They can compete with many metals twice their price. The reason they are "budget metals" is because the shapes are very basic designs, O, H, W, and V, and are anodized in solid colors. All YoYos are one of these 3 shapes, but many more "high end" ones have more extreme shapes or weight distributions, as well as more colorful and intricate annodization. The Benchmark series is really just a no frills metal YoYo, a great player without anything too flashy with it to hike up the price. Every shape plays extremely well, it is all just a matter of preference. I myself am more of a fan of H shapes. As a beginner YoYo, I can't recommend starting out unresponsive however. Some people say otherwise, but in my experience (I learned responsive first on a Duncan Pro-Z, lol) you'll have a more solid understanding of YoYo and the basics of you start from responsive. However, that decision is ultimately up to you, lovely reader. If you wanted an even cheaper plastic, I would recommend a YoYoJam Classic (check it out on yoyoexpert.com), but if you are just starting your venture into unresponsive play and are looking for an affordable, great playing metal YoYo from an extremely respectable company, the Benchmark series is the way to go.
