Umm, Onkyo USA sent me an upgrade email at this price direct today ... of course they claim an MSRP of 649 not 449 ... (We still need a way to flag - Price Suspect items to save having to read the comments to know the price is not great/good)

MasserdonSometimes the lower prices are from Amazon or sites that don't have international shipping, so it wouldn't be 100% applicable to simply flag the drop. Also, I bet that kind of feature would quickly get abused lol

techwizWhat's the point in abusing it? The issue is that too often the items posted are simply not a bargain - and it's frustrating to have to research each one, or read comments to see who has already done the research. It's easy to legislate for trolls and fools, by only highlighting the item as suspect once there are an accumulated +3 concerns members (i.e. you allow people to down vote a concern to negate it).

Masserdon"What's the point in abusing it?" Some people are just assholes who will hit the button on every drop just to spite Massdrop or whatever. With the amount of people that complain incessantly about how Massdrop does business, I can absolutely see something similar to how brigading is happening with other online voting systems like Amazon reviews or Steam reviews. It's unfortunate, but you really can't trust a community with such a feature without first putting a lot of controls in place. I honestly don't think it's worth MD's time even if it saves us some time and effort. Besides, it's not like you have to do any more homework than you'd have to do on any other site. "It's easy to legislate for trolls and fools" lol, you're a real optimistic dude, I like that.

techwizI am optimistic, and I've written the kind of algorithms and scoring systems it would take to detect trolls and to allow community voting to self-manage. That of course does not deal with a strategic attempt to undermine the system - which may or may not be a legitimate concern. The issue is that when someone buys from MD and later finds out they didn't get a bargain, they are very likely to not return. But as you say, if overall it is working for MD - why bother improving it.

MasserdonI think there's room for improvement, but I also think that it's not a fantastic idea to jump in with some idea that seems great from the end user's perspective without considering all the angles. Massdrop doesn't just have a relationship with us, the customers, they also have relationships with their vendors that choose to sell on their platform. They're not gonna wanna work with Massdrop anymore if the community just comes around votebombing them for kicks. I mean, honestly, we had a Macbook show up on here once, how do you think that product would fare against a community that can arbitrarily "down vote" a product? Especially with how the PC community tends to behave on here. I'd like to say "no offense" but some of the folks here are downright barbaric. Not a good look for Massdrop.
