Honestly, I would love this thing if it didn't have bluetooth or wi-fi, and if it just out of the box had some basic linux support, like detected as a drive or something. I genuinely have no interest in bluetooth or wi-fi and i'd just love a product that didn't have it. Sure, you don't need to use it, or you can shut it off or whatever, but I would just like an option that didn't have it at all.

TreponimReally? Android is a subset of what was linux distros back when it came out.
The nature of these things is that, when connected to a computer/tv/anything USB, they generally offer drive mounting, and then present like being a USB ‘thumbdrive’; very easy to copy to and from.
I drool over stuff like the Opus here, but can confirm every Android Digital Audio Player I have used offers the feature you want....
maybe I am missing something?
My FIIO X5iii presents 3 different drives to connected equipment, the internal storage, slot one and slot two.
slot two is via a different internal controller and I can actually copy to/from internal/slot one and slot two simultaneously with no speed loss...

WhitedragemAh nice! The majority that i've seen require, or claim to require, some weird interfacing software, which I really don't want to deal with, and bluetooth /wi-fi are just show stoppers, which is why I went with Cowon. Sometimes it's just nice to have options.

TreponimI have spent a (fair) bit of time over the last week looking into custom Operating systems on various digital audio players.
back before iPhones I used to roll custom builds on a range of phones and enjoyed heavily contributing (chefs/cooking) ROMs via xda developers.
eventually a group formed and cyanogen mod was a thing....
but its fun seeing that this stuff is still of ‘high importance’ to some.
eg an antiquated old DAP I have can have its processor overclocked and a whole slew of android components stripped out and certain modules added (for adding unsupported features) and different drivers used (that can change the sound).
sometimes this is all we need to extend life on an old part.
i remember being really happy scoring an ancient samsung nexus (gen one) which had curved glass well before a galaxy S6/note 7 etc... the wolfson DAC supported voodoo modding (a software/driver combo that added 128x oversampling etc and made the phone quite a nice media player)
whilst it was great value for fifty dollars many years ago, the internal storage (only 8Gb total) was really slow.
it almost felt like copying tapes at 1x speed.
(i would update/rotate music files when going to bed to have fresh in the morning)
i noticed today quite a few posts that gave directions for the custom OSs to remove all wifi and blutooth.
im just freaked out thinking-what if, with no drivers, the aerials just ran ‘full power’, but then i suppose they wouldnt be transmitting anything so...... (no rf pollution!)
i have owned so many DLNA wireless products and never used the tech for myself.
i do see drop forum goers warning others away from bargain buys because they miss certain features, features that not one of any of the audio heads I know would have a use for or want.
I was given six 128gb sandisk microsd cards a few weeks ago when buying a $100mac mini.
made me recall back in 2001 buying a wee mp3 player, about the size of two AA batteries, that took SD cards.
i said to the girlfriend who wanted a music player with included storage, that she would just have to load up cards (256megabytes back then) with different genres - eg one card for dance music, one for classic rock etc...
it was sort of like having giant tapes or minidiscs (based on the number of songs each could hold)... having all these 128gb micro sd cards makes me think to do the same.... except even with Wave files (larger than most lossless formats that people use) I find a few hundred gigabytes a real lot of music... more than i need to carry.
having quite a few thousand recordings (mostly thrift store finds for $1, but only if the disc is immaculate), I have no need for streaming/wifi etc...
and 128gb cards allows for some pretty tight/tailored genres per card. (Even with lossless files)..
maybe my collection diversity is too wide, but I certainly wouldn’t want full random music....
genesis/peter gabriel, then tool, then enigma, then suzanne vega/tori amos, then ‘go’ soundtrack, followed by florence and ben harper, garbage, apocalyptica, etc etc... I’d lose interest.
i like whole albums.
i thank a teac p700 transport I found second hand with no remote; it had play/pause and stop if I recall. Whole albums it was ;-). (It must have had track advance and return, but the source was so good it took my breath away and made me listen to whole recording, like artists once wrote- eg alan parsons ‘themed albums’)
yes... wifi and bluetooth are features that top of the line digital audio players strive to dampen the effects of.
was looking at FiiOs webpage today and the new six and eight layer circuits and isolation going into layout to seperate noisy antennas is a huge design consideration...
just like all my audio life I would strive for integrated amps (ideally pre/power seperates) vs stereo receivers as the fm tuner would add noise/never have the same black background as the same pricepoint amp without the extra kit (antennas etc) that receiving ‘wireless’ (pun intended) required.

Should I exchange the PC38X for better headphones?
I bought the PC38X headphones FOR GAMING and they are great, but I have NO use for a Microphone since I don't do competitive gaming and I was wondering if there were better headphone options at a similar price without a headphone, where (presumably) more of the cost was put into making it sound better. I also find that my PC38X don't get quite as loud as I would like and I was wondering if a cheap amp like the iFi Go link would draw a little more volume out of my phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN6MM822?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I went with the PC38X since it was considered the best bang for buck headphones. Looking for a gaming/content audio setup
Hello! I'm looking for recommendations on audio setups. I'd be planning on using it mostly for gaming. Preferably I'd like a pair of large closed back headphones since I have a big head and jaw. I'd also like to hear myself through my mic with mic monitoring. As far as budget goes, I don't really have one. But under 600$ would be nice. I can go higher if needed. The audio setup would be connected to a high performance PC. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

Trying to buy some gear off Drop for the first time. I was told I would receive an email with a welcome to drop $10 off promo. I never received that email. Drop was able to send me emails for my login token and email for Password update. But for some reason the $10 off coupon was never sent to me.

Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.
