This Orient Kamasu/Barracuda feels like a better or upgraded version of the Orient Ray II. I own the Ray and I immediately noticed a few differences. First, I noticed that the ‘Cuda has sapphire crystal as opposed to the mineral crystal on my Ray. Second, the bezel is smoother and much easier to rotate on the ‘Cuda. The bezel feels almost the same as the bezel on my SKX. Third, the crown appears to be the same size as the Ray, however, for some strange reason, the crown on the ‘Cuda is much easier to screw and unscrew and is able to get better bites during each turn of the crown. Lastly, the minute and second hands are longer on the ‘Cuda and actually extend out to reach the chapter ring. This is aesthetically more pleasing to the eye, IMO. The accuracy is excellent at +2 seconds per day and a total of 6 seconds in three days that I’ve owned it. Overall, for less than $50 more in price compared to the Ray II, this watch is worth the upgrade.

CeeBassI'm gonna say it. That watch looks terrible on a brown strap.

Great value,Kamasu.
My Kamasu (mako III) arrived quickly all things considered. The box is underwhelming, but the watch delivers more. The spec. with the Sapphire glass, 200m WR, screw crown and high quality auto movement is extremely good value, especially when you have a good look at the quality fitment of everything on the dial, as good as if not better than some of my Swiss watches. Very handsome watch, the blue dial on this diver style is just so classical. The only downside: and it doesn't minus any stars , is that it wears a touch smaller than my other 42mm watches!!!!

Great watch, good price, bad bracelet
I've been watching the Orient Kamasu (wrongly labeled Mako 3 by Drop) for some time, waiting for a good deal to snatch one. Finally got it on Drop. It's a great watch at a great price. Build quality is fantastic. Overall, I'm very impressed. One caveat though, the bracelet  is not the best quality. It does fine for what it is, but it has hollow end links and feels a bit cheap for a +250 USD watch. As far as accuracy for the money it's great. Mine is running around a few seconds a day. The sapphire crystal, day/date feature is a great feature at this price bracket. The automatic movement is Japanese, with hacking and hand winding. The watch isn't made in Japan, probably in Malaysia or HK, but the parts are all Japan sourced. Orient is owned by Epson (yes, those from the printers) and is a sister company of Seiko. but their movements are better than Seiko's, especially if you consider that the power reserve is slightly better, +/- 40 hours for Orient vs. ~38 hours with the equivalent Seiko. Also the sapphire crystal is not available on cheaper Seikos, only the Grand Seiko and the top of the line models get it and it's not the same price. So if you're looking for a good Diver's style (not a real diver, can't have those for the price) the Kamasu (Mako 3) is a fantastic choice.

Excellent for the price.
Great watch! Very good looking “dress” diver. Orient checks all the boxes that Seiko is lacking. Great fit & finish, attention to details, bezel action is solid, no alignment issues & sapphire crystal as a cherry on top. The only weak point of this piece is a lame crown. Its a screw down crown, but its not very easy to operate & you can find a lot of complaints online that it breaks very easily. Other than that, you cant get better for the price. Great job, Orient!

Crown broke off within 40 days of receipt. No warranty, will never use Drop again
This is the second Orient that I own. First one still runs fine. Received this one on 8/31/20, wore it every other day, 40 days after receipt, the crown comes off. I didn't realize that there is no warranty to the watch, assuming it was new, I thought at least there would be a registration form from Orient that would come with the watch, but there wasn't. Drop said that it was outside their 30 day warranty. So I'm stuck with a broken watch that cost $150, worn 20 times and now will have to be used to level a wobbly table. Read description very carefully, if no warranty is stated, it comes with a 30 day return. Will never use Drop again.

sabatiniWhat part of the crown broke off did a large portion of the stem break off with it? Orient don't sell spare parts apart from bezels and straps. And charge more than 200 for any repair. I would be interested in buying it from you as a donor watch.

DoidgeI posted a picture of the break, the crown with stem came out. I am going to see if Amex will refund my money since they usually warranty purchases for a year. I will keep you posted after I attempt that.

Very good until the crown came off
Received the watch on July 12, wore daily until the 1st of October. Love the look and feel, had reasonable accuracy (About a minute fast per week). Today when I unscrewed the crown to adjust the date to the 1st, the crown pulled off. I've only been using the crown once a week to adjust the time back, or once a month to change the date, so that's pretty disappointing.

OshiI would be interested in a parts donor for my jdm red kamasu. thing I hate about Orient is they only sell superficial parts. I have never heard of these problems with non US kamasus. My jdm has no gaps or rattle with a sturdy stem. +2 on wrist. If you want a kamasu buy one where the second day language is French or Japanese.

I'm in the same boat as DDysart. About 3 months in and my crown fell off. Orient even told me the Mako III does not even exist and that the model number is actually a Kano and now I'm out $180 unless I want to pay the $65 plus shipping both ways to get it fixed! I would tell anyone to beware!

Faulty Crown.
Here’s my original 5 star review: “This watch (the Kamasu) is truly wonderful. Not too large - the perfect size. I’ve already received tons of compliments. Most people believe it to be a much more expensive watch than it is. Highly recommended!” Unfortunately, I have since had to revise my review. After only a short period of wearing it and very gentle handling - the crown just fell off. Orient would not fix or replace it. Thankfully, drop.com let me send it back for a full refund. So as nice as it looked, the quality of Orient watches has clearly gone downhill. I’ll definitely be buying another watch from drop.com - just not an Orient.

PilotMikeI have a red jdm and I love it runs +1 consistantly. Orient don't sell parts apart from bezels and bracelets. I have never heard of this happen in a jdm or EU model. I would be interested in buying a parts donor.

Avoid this company
The crown fell off with 3 months. Orient is refusing to repair it under warranty. Massdrop is also pointing out that the watch doesn't come with a warranty. Beware.

I actually went to a local guy who tried for 2 months but could not source the stem. I’m finally going to send this to Orient USA and bite the bullet. Just know there seems to be quality issues with it. I totally would not buy from Drop ever again after their response to this.

DDysartKif you don't have any luck as Orient don't sell parts apaet from bezels and bracelets plus any repair is at least 180. Only thing I dislike about Orient I would be looking for a parts donor doe my jdm kamasu. I've never heard of these quality issues on non US kamasus.
