I can't seem to bring myself to jump on the Mako, Kano, Kamasu fan wagon. +1 for the F6922 movement, and I know they have a tremendous dollar-for-dollar value if your balling on a budget, but based on the comments, I’m just not sold on the build quality. 🤔 $50 on a NH36 heart swap and another $50 on a DD sapphire upgrade and 80 towards one of those trusty SKX’s sounds a little more appealing to me.

milmaticMost people don't mod their watches. And SKX are going for ridiculous prices. You're spending nearly $100 extra on top of that to mod it. SKX are outdated, overpriced, and overhyped watches. I like them, but if you're telling me that they're only good with major components swapped out, I'd rather look elsewhere.

CalvinLWord. I feel you. The SKX tech is dated and many pieces in this sub 2 bill class have more features, I’ll even consider $$, with the exception of the recent drop the SKX’s are a little more bread. But I’m just considering moving my investment of time and money to an equity position rather than dealing with the hassle and annoyance of trying to fix a broken $170 watch with a suspect warranty after three months (that I knew had potential issues). For me, if I may have to spend more money anyway and loose wrist time too, I would prefer to be the one in control and cracking the piggy bank open a little wider for something I want on a timetable I have a little more confidence in. It gives me that positive ROI feeling. As opposed to that, ”they gotchya sucka” feeling. I’m definitely not telling you what to do with your hard earned chips my friend. I’m just pixel shopping for the time piece that checks all the boxes for me. A “my way” modded SKX “might” be the one or maybe it's a strong 2. Not sure yet, but if the Kamasu is your jam, play it and roll them dice my man!

milmaticYou could also go to Long Island watch and pay them to do the upgrades. Bit pricier than doing it yourself, but it’s done by pros and they water test. ive said it before, but I consider the SKX as the Honda Civic of the watch world and the 4R movements as the Chevy small block. one you buy so you can mod it, the other you buy to stick into any watch you want to run. As to the build quality, I’ve currently got 3 orients and 5 Seikos. Each of the Seikos has a different little thing wrong with it. One orient is problem free (sun and moon v3) while the triton and Kamasu both exhibit the same weak crown. I tend to hand wind my watches a lot, and knock on wood, no problems so far. In a way, it’s a little reassuring it’s the same problem as that means they’re consistent. Build quality is good, it’s nothing like my higher end pieces but at $180, I’m totally satisfied. And I’m a pain in the @$$.

WatchyoutalkingaboutThanks for the feedback, you read my mind on hitting up ole Mark at the 516. They do good business. Also, I appreciate the analogies about the SKX, I absolutely agree. My first SKX has been pretty trusty and I don’t necessarily miss the hacking, winding and sapphire. It just does it’s job and doesn’t look half bad doing it. In any case, I might look into picking one of these up for the sake of it. Coincidentally this https://www.seikowatches.com/global-en/products/5sports/srpd53k1 Came across the blogosphere this morning. That styling is familiar, 👀 go figure....And I thought the mini turtle was the heir apparent to the SKX.....

milmaticI’m partial to the new green dials, especially the matte textured dial.
