As I'm sure you know, the rotor turns as you move your wrist throughout the day. I never wind my hand wound watches. I put them on and they charge by my movements. I have multiple watches that have power reserve complications. You can watch the watch charge fully just by going about your day. Hand winding is nice to have but I'm not sure why someone would suggest it's an absolute must

I agree it's not a must have but it's a nice to have feature. Sometimes I don't build up enough kinetic energy to wind the spring in my watch in the morning and I would notice that it would be late for 5 to 10 minutes and I have to set the time again, So when I wear a watch that can be handwound I would wind it 5 to 10 times after I set the time, sort of a short morning ritual to sort of build a reserve on the watch. But I don't imagine that it would be a problem if you have a repetitive hand movement activity to start your day.

Jomashop has this for $190 (and extra $5 off with code GOOGLE5) so unless you REALLY wanna save 5 bucks, this isn't a very good deal per say. (Price may go up, however, since it's Joma's back to school sale currently)
It IS, however, a very good watch. And when you factor in the price, it is an absolutely amazing watch.
Sub-$200 for a nice automatic with small seconds subdial as well as a power reserve complication. Those are two pretty fancy complications, and getting them at this price is a steal.
Plus, Orient automatic movements in general are high quality for the cost. The only thing I question is the weird date subdial that looks like a chronograph dial the way the numerals are partitioned in increments of 5. If it weren't for the "31" I would have sworn it's a timer counting up to 30 min like on a chronograph watch.

I am finding myself drawn to this one..... I like it. Can anyone attest to the reliability of the movement? I've done a little googling but there does not seem to be a great deal of info (that I can find...). Lot's of places have it (or similar) for sale though....

Orient automatic movements are very high quality for the price and comparable to Seiko's automatic movements of the same price range in terms of reliability and accuracy. You won't have chronometer specs on a $200 watch, but as far as entry-level automatics go, Orient is hard to beat. I have had several Orient watches over the years, and not once have I received a "dud". Though official tolerance values are of a wider range, and you could very well receive a less-accurate watch through sheer bad luck, I wouldn't be surprised with +/- 10 seconds daily out of the box (without any additional regulation) once you break the movement in, which is great for a cheap auto like this.

I love these in spite of the weird lug width.

I have never seen this model before and I like the design so I went with it. Hard to beat at the price.

If it were a little smaller and had a more common lug width (what are you doing Orient???) I'd be in.

this is a cool watch, if i were in the market for something like this, i'd join the drop at this price. I'm normally luke warm on many of the Orients, they're really 'safe' in design , fairly attractive, nothing wild, and although this certainly doesn't push any envelopes, sort of like a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry, this though, it's one of the prettier ones from them i've seen. Particularly like that it doesn't have a date wheel ruining the dial, it's a balanced well executed design, and i'm pretty sure those that buy this will be happy. i'll put this model on my watch lists for future consideration for sure when i'm ready to buy something again in this vein

10 bucks more at Joma and you can have it in a few days instead of just before Thanksgiving... Nice value here, really. If you like this style of watch you get a sapphire crystal-ed auto for under 200. Tough to go wrong. As always with watches at this price point the strap will be positively awful so figure the cost of a decent replacement into your decision
