Beautiful watch. Such a shame to see all these beautiful timepieces that didn't find a home just because they were 42mm and end-up on the grey market at heavily reduced prices. I wouldn't want to be the one who took the decision to produce them in that size vs more conventional 38-41 max for this type of dressier watch...

AtoumPoppycock! The damn difference between your 41mm max watch and this 42mm watch is an extra 1mm hanging off either side of the damn case! I would hardly call that a shame and doubt seriously if that's the reason this particular model ended up here--plenty of Oris watches have been here previously. The "shame" would be passing on a watch one otherwise liked, because of some preconceived notion of what a "dressier" watch is supposed be. Try walking on the one-millimeter-wild-side, it won't kill you.

RayFThere's a reason standards exist in terms of size, and there's a reason limits exist according to each individual. Personally for dressier watches I tend to go 38-40, 39 being my sweet spot. I've seen a few people on social media saying they're ok with 41 on dressier pieces, and can count the ones who said 42 is in their standards on the fingers of one hand. As to me personally, that 1mm makes the difference between a big watch and a watch over-hanging from my wrist - which is on the smaller size I admit. I mean with this reasoning you start with a budget of 300 then see a watch at 330 and go "yeah, 330 is close to 300 enough, I can stretch it" then see a watch at 350 and go "yeah 350 is close enough to 330 I can stretch it" and end up buying a 500 USD watch at the end of the day. I've tried being less square about my limits and getting a bigger watch. It's been in a box trying to find a new owner since 7 months now. So yeah, from experience, a limit is a limit, particularly when it comes to fine and delicate pieces like watches! ;) Edit: the shame is that it didn't sell because someone decided to produce it larger than the industry standards, which DOES pull quite a bit of people off, the testimony of this being that this Oris is here on MD, contrary to thei watches that sold well. Just saying ;)

AtoumSome of what you mention is just a "watches in general" kind of problem--their damn prices and the damn budget constraints we all have to live with. I would need conformation from higher source to confirm your theory that this watch finds itself here is solely based on its size.

RayFWell, put it this way, it's an Oris, has an interesting and one of the most useful complications any traveller can dream of, has a very versatile overall design, is a limited edition, and is discounted at far less than 50% its AD price on MassDrop. There has to be a reason why they didn't manage to sell even the limited number of pieces, and looking at the watch, its size is the only thing I could see somehow wrong with it. But of course this is by no mean backed by any scientific data ;)

AtoumYes, and as we all know, the comments section of MD's Watch Community is the very definition of peer reviewed, scientific data--we have our standards.

AtoumAtoum, I purchased a 29 mm Oris "Big Crown" 01 594 7680 4061-07 5 14 76FC on Massdrop earlier this year for my wife (at approximately 1/3 the MSRP). So, I don't think the large size of this Oris watch accounts for its appearance on MD - it simply looks like Oris is trying to liquidate discontinued models without cannibalizing sales by their ADs. BTW, my wife likes the Oris, but LOVES her new 39 mm Tag-Heuer Carrera WAR1112.BA0601.

AUTigerFanThe larger and smaller big crowns are the ones selling the less, the smaller ones as ladies watches sell less than men's ones, larger ones because, unless one has a larger than usual wrist size, 42mm is above standards for such a type of watch. Our reasoning is the same: Oris is selling what is left over in large numbers of their discontinued models on MD. You find the smaller and larger ones on MD, but not the standard sized ones, which sold well enough without having to be heavily discounted on websites like MD ;) There isn't, to my knowledge, any 39 or 40mm Oris on MD, other than if I recall well a bicolored (gold and steel one), which again is to the taste of the minority only, be it with this model or practically every watch model minus a few exceptions.

AtoumOh--so now there's a STANDARD wrist size, is there?! I suppose that means people who don't have wrists of that particular size are now considered NON-STANDARD PEOPLE? You may have a point--we certainly can't have a bunch of non-standard folks running around, fucking up the world for you standard guys, now can we? Maybe we should round them all up and send them to special non-standard camps? Or better--we could make them undergo some kind of special "Wrist Standardization Surgeries--you know--for their own good? I'm thinking you might wanna start a campaign to set things right? You'll need a catchy slogan for that--how about: "Make America Standard Again!"

RayFWhen you'll stop trolling other people's posts on MD, you may start taking deep breaths before reading them. You may then realize that the word "standard" in mine applied to case sizes for this type of watch. As for wrist sizes, I did say "larger than usual" and not standard, as, for your information, yes there are average sized wrists, smaller than usual ones (mine in example), and larger than usual ones. And frankly, who cares if you agree or not? Do yourself some good: get a life, learn to read or to take a deep breath before reading, and stop answering to people's comments for the sake of trolling. Makes you look somehow miserable, frankly.

AtoumI'm beginning to think this isn't just a case of non-standard wrist size--we could very well be dealing with an acute case of non-standard brain size as well!
