Thank you very much for your email. Things are not always what they seem to be. We didn't enter into any relationship with Massdrop.com, we didn't sell or promise to sell them our cartridges, nor we talked to Massdrop.com regarding retailing our product. I haven't hear about any attempts to rectify anything by Massdrop.com, therefore Ortofon can't be blamed for not shipping orders sold by Massdrop.com. There is someone out there who succeeded to sell product he didn’t have with the help of Massdrop.com

Here’s how Massdrop works. They buy product from two places, the manufacturer and resellers. They do this all the time. The fact that Ortofon knows nothing about this order only means, Massdrop purchased these from a reseller (That should have been clear from the warranty conversation).
A reseller isn‘t bad or good, it just is. If the reseller is reputable, they will have product right away, ship on time, and have a great price. If they are sleaze bags, they don’t have product, or have problems getting it and don’t ship on time.
I did the Mavic Pro drop a long time ago. A super high demand drone, nobody could buy at full price from DJI, but offered by Massdrop from almost on release date at a discount. That drop drug on and on for months, and never shipped. Massdrop refunded every order. They did refunds for anybody that wanted out shortly after the drop ended. It was a reseller that promised drones they didn’t have. Massdrop made it right.
Yes communication was a problem. Except, what could they say? The reseller kept promising shipments. Or they were trying to work something out. Daily or even weekly posts would have been useless, the same things over and over.
I have ave no clue if these Ortofons will ever ship. Shoot they might ship tomorrow. Nobody but the reseller knows.
Massdrop probably owes us a post here on the status. That would be nice.

What could they say? They could say precisely what you did in your third paragraph. Had they done that, they would probably have more customers sticking around after this unfortunate turn of events, and fewer of them fleeing from the site, the Massdrop logo fading in their rear view mirrors. Not a good way to run a business and build a customer base.
