Sorry Charlie; close, but no cigar! The standard in this shoe is still the standard--and at half the price, a much better deal too:

nathanloYou're asking the wrong person. But if you want my opinion, it sounds like you wear a 9.5, so if I were you, I'd order a 9.5!!!

RayFWhen Weejuns were made in the US, maybe. Now they're made in China with the cheapest shiniest almost patent leather material you can find, and they're nowhere near what you probably remember them being. They did do a small run of Made in Maine (borrowing another company's factory, mind you) a few years ago and those ran for 295$ plus shipping. So again, don't know about the "much better" deal part you refer to, honestly. Depends on what you're looking for, your budget, and if you understand what has happened to the GH Bass brand since the offshoring 80s.

TomasVOh--holly shit, don't tell me a Massdrop category leader is going to lecture me about virtues of made in America?!!! 'Cause buddy, we all know when and why MD might suddenly give a rats-ass about that subject, and that would only be: when the margins are on your side of the argument! I don't want to state the obvious, but if you click that little button up there at the top that reads: "Drops," you're going to be buried in an avalanche of foreign-made schlock so thick it'll take us from now until quit'n time to dig your hypocritical ass out from under it! But lets leave the politics and exploited workers outside in the cold for jus a minute, and discuss just the aesthetics of the situation...
Allowing for their questionable immigration status for the moment, Weejuns just look like beef roll penny loafers are supposed to look. I don't want to disparage George, but I don't see that he's bringing much to the game in the design department. Yes, he's using that ever-so-popular, Horween Chromexcel leather, but just look at the breadth and scope of the Bass product line--they've got "billions and billions" of colors, finishes and sizes available (as Dr. Sagan used to say), but your Boy George, only offers three colors and NO WIDTHS! It's almost embarrassing to compare the two. And did I mention the Weejun line is generally half the price? I think I did--but did I also mention your can get a damn pair of Cole Haan Pinch Grand Penny Loafers for $129 today on their website!
On the other hand, I have to admit I don't know where the hell the Cole Haans come from, but I DO know a lot of the Weejuns are made in El Salvador--a country who's labor situation I've taken exception too, elsewhere on this site--so in that respect, I'm inclined to give the nod to George's people if not his penny loafers--or at least I was, until I went to the Oak Street Boot Makers website, found their actual street address and plugged that into Google Maps Street View--yikes, that gave me pause (I'm sure there's an explanation).
So, as I pedal off, into the sunset I'm going to pass on this particular drop--not for reasons of conscience or quality, but because I no longer have to wear shoes in this category (or any other category for that matter), but should MD or the good folks at OSBM come up with something that catches my eye in the future, I'll promise to keep an open mind ;- )
