TL; DR this is an incredible value. You can spend twice as much without really getting anything better, and the cheapest REAL upgrade will be nearly 4x as much!
I've had my KC06A for almost two years now, and I'm still happy I bought it. It was my best IEM when I got it, and even though I've upgraded to an iSine 20 now, I still have my KC06A, and it still sounds pretty good, it's still enjoyable to me. Of course it's nowhere near iSine level performance, but it costs 1/10 of what the Audeze does, and it's probably good for covering 80% of the performance.
The Ostry has very good clarity, detail, and accuracy, and it can reach all the way down to give you satisfying bass and sub-bass. It's good enough to scale up with a good DAP or DAC/amp stack, and also sounds good just streaming regular lo-fi files using the headphone jack on your cellphone. One note though: it's well-known as one of the more hiss-prone IEMs out there. If your amp has an output impedance much higher than 1 ohm, this might be a problem (fortunately, lots of budget DAPS/amps are close to .1 ohm: anything from Fiio, for example, or any iPod/iPhone).
There isn't much to compare it to at this price point; it compares well with models that cost twice as much, like the Dunu Titan 1 and Vsonic GR07, themselves known for their excellent value. You do get slightly more performance from those two $100 models: a little more clarity, a little more detail. But the KC06A gets you 95% of the way there. It has it's flaws of course (but do the Dunu and Vsonic). The Ostry bass always sounds like it doesn't blend in with the rest of the sound as seamlessly as I'd like, but I'll take that flaw over the Titan 1's tendency to let the bass bloom and interfere with the midrange. $100 also buys you a Shure SE215, which I didn't like nearly as much. The bass is slow and bloomy, the highs rolled off. Yuck. The $5 VE Monk+ is the most interesting comparison. The Ostry is undoubtedly better, but it's a whopping 9x as expensive! It's not 9x better, but calling it 3x better sounds about right.
To get something clearly better than this Ostry, you're going to have to spend nearly $200, or buy used. Maybe you can score a used Hifiman RE600 for $100, that would be a worthwhile upgrade. Or a used ATH-E70 for $250, that would represent a serious upgrade. You could also buy FIVE PAIRS of NEW KC06A's for the same dough as one USED e70!
The KC06A was a great first step for me into the world of modern IEMs, and it's settled in to the backup or #2 role more recently. If I don't feel like wearing $400 on my head, for example. I don't expect to ever sell my KC06A, it doesn't make sense to. I wouldn't part with it for less than $50, which is what a new one costs, so there's no point.
FYI I listen mostly to EDM, and while it's no bass cannon, it is very good for EDM.
