Basically looks like a rusted Seiko 5 Sports turtle to me.

This is like that Spinnaker distressed watch, in that it's not distressed under the crystal (although they do provide an easily distressable mineral crystal at no extra cost). To match the overall effect it would be good to distress the face, the hands, and the inner bezel! Logically, these parts are not damaged when you bash around a watch, but on the other hand they are always crudded up in old watches. from natural metal deterioration. Laco's distressed fliegers really do it right, down to fake faded lume. Artificial aging of products is a non-trivial field of study, and companies have specialists who accelerate product aging before release just to look for potential product support problems. These guys will bombard stuff with strong ultraviolet, bake it in ovens, and so on. Apple's white plastic iPhone was famously delayed because their aging guys discovered they would yellow. I will note that artificial distressing can sometimes suddenly look really fake when you for-real bang up something. The fixtures at DisneySea in Tokyo are famously fake-distressed in certain areas, and then you'll see a chunk of paint chipped off of a fake-distressed something, and the realness of the real distressing contrasts sharply with the fakeness of the fake distressing. I had a plan, now dormant, to use a rock polisher and try different timings and "additives" to get a well-used watch look, maybe masking off the crystal and doing that separately. I wanted a junk watch to wear while gardening. I tried to buy an old Seiko or Orient diver at auction, but they are pretty expensive even as junk. So I came up with my fake junk watch scheme, which got more and more elaborate and expensive. Finally I realized that I could just buy a $5 LED watch. But that isn't me. I ended up buying a cheap Invicta diver, expecting it to get dinged up over time.

I would like to buy the straps on their own for a real distressed watch I have in mind...

Yeah, the distressedness does leave something to be desired. She has a whole section on her website of distressed straps that are more "stone washed." Her "hand dyed" straps tend to look more distressed than her distressed straps: https://www.martuleather.com/store/c21/Hand_dyed_straps.html She also does more custom stuff. On this page the hardware on the "Hand Vintage & Copper Pre V" is definitely distressed, and the "Limited Edition Vintage Captain America" shows more deliberate distressing than in her normal distressed straps: https://www.martuleather.com/projects--limited-editions.html If you email her and let her know what you're thinking of, she may be able to do it. She's relatively inexpensive so even a custom strap would be affordable.

CloacaThanks again for the really solid leads. I am starting my project using Martu straps. First piece is a 1998 Blancpain Air Command chrono. And the next will be a Bell&Ross WW1 Bombardier Regulateur. The Air Command is stylistically a Fifty Fathoms chrono with a semi-chunky bezel so it'll be fun to pimp it out a little. The B&R—if not familiar—is kind of a love-it-or-hate-it bombardier / bomb timer homage piece so a bit of an odd duck 49mm grey/brown PVD with scalloped bezel and left-side onion-style winding stem. The lugs are narrower but I think it needs something a little over-the-top-flight-crew looking or even cyber-punkish with bronze or copper. I'll send a photo along once I've got'er figured out. All the best!

I have the blue torpedine model; I picked it up for around 200$USD off eBay when a watchgang subscriber wanted to offload his. There’s lots of people here that really don’t like this watch, but I thought I’d give my feelings on it since I actually have one. First off, it’s not a bad watch; it has a decent Miyota movement(non-hacking but whatever), is a nice size suitable for large or small wrists, and has a good quality leather strap. Build quality is generally good, it feels solid on wrist and wears well. However, it did irritate me that the tachymeter scale was misaligned out of the box. Of course the tachymeter scale serves no purpose here and is only for show, but still, it was so badly misaligned that not even Seiko would have let this one go, and I ended up bringing it to a watch shop to realign it. Even with that extra expense it’s still a decent purchase for me considering what I paid for it. Definitely don’t pay full price on it, it’s not worth that much. Perhaps it’s the vintage/distressed finish which makes it more expensive to produce, but the end result of the finishing process is disappointing. I was interested in seeing a distressed, splotchy finish, but for the most part the entire watch is simply tinted a dark rusted brown color with a few very faint discolouration spots. There are no scratches or dings to give it “character” either, the watch case is smooth all over. I suppose Out of Order wants you to develop your own personal scratches and dings, which defeats the purpose of buying a pre-distressed watch. Really, the selling point for this watch was the old school faux vintage finish and feel, and from a distance you might be fooled into thinking it’s an old watch, but once you have it in your hands you can tell immediately that’s not the case. It is especially obvious when you see the “Made in Italy” text etched into the side of the watch case; the text is clean and crisp, completely out of character for this type of vintage style watch.

Sort of has a post-apocalyptic Doxa vibe going for it, which is different. Think I’d probably prefer to save up for the real thing.

This is the equivalent of Acid Washed, Torn Jeans/Denim that has no place in the watch world. This is wrong...
