Have you watched the demo video or downloaded the trial?
Virtual surround sound is absolutely legit, but its effectiveness depends on how well the software's profile matches your head. I'm personally very impressed with this, works far better for me than Dolby Headphone (which, to me, just sounds like a bunch of reverb). You might have opposite results, or not get anything good from either. Only way to know is to check for yourself.

Totally legit. I tried it live at a headphone event. No tricks just a 4-way headphone amp (just accommodate 4 listeners at a time and any kind of head phone, plugged into a laptop running a movie and the software of course. I think it's the answer to an apartment dweller's wishes for movies. Also for travelers who want to watch movies with surround in their hotel room or whatever. No snake oil here and I have a hair-trigger, itchy snake oil detector. As suggested, try it for yourself with the demo. I was going to click "I'll take one of these", but I can't wear headphones longer than 15 to 20 minutes on a good day with a comfortable pair, but that's me. If you like the demo, I'd jump on this offer!

Hi Sphyloid,
Thanks for posting. Yes I admit it does sound "snake-oily" at first look. I often have people who don't believe me until they hear it. Then their reaction is quite different. In fact, if you look at the first posts in this discussion for the first time Out Of Your Head was offered on Massdrop, others had the same reaction and even assumed this was "snake oil".
But have you heard of a gentleman named "Tyll Hertsens" from InnerFidelity.com? Please read what he has to say: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/out-of-your-head-speaker-software/talk#!73008 (I was actually flattered that Tyll chimed in. It's the only comment he's ever made on Massdrop.)
Of course as everyone said, it's best for you to decide for yourself using your ears. It's free! (to try, that is) -Darin

Thanks! Sadly the AKG K553's made my wallet double over in pain, maybe after my summer job though.

Hats off, this is impressive, even makes my Sony MDRZX110's sound incredible, cant wait to try it with my AKG 553's when they arrive! But till I get money, looks like ill only be able to try. Quad ESL and Acapella Trilon are my favorite so far.
