Darin, have you thought about changing the way you handle multi-computer setups? I use 3 different devices but really only 1 at a time. I know right now I have to buy a speaker preset per device in order to get it to work. Every time I see this drop go up I really want to pull the trigger, then I realize that I can only really have it working on one device (cost effectively). Sorry to beat a dead horse. Thanks.

Hi djfluffkins,
Yes, I understand what you're asking about regarding the licensing.
First, just so everyone else knows, in order to license additional computers, you need to buy and additional speaker preset for each additional system. So the cost is about $25 to license each additional system.
To be honest, we didn't implement any kind of licensing server since we didn't want Out Of Your Head to need an internet connection to work. So we decided to have the licenses verified locally based on the computer's hardware ID. Out Of Your Head does not "call home" to verify the licenses. This way Out Of Your Head would work properly when being used while traveling, on a plane, etc. But it makes it hard to implement a "floating license" server method for licensing.
One other way to look at it is that here on Massdrop you are getting Out Of Your Head for 50% off. You could use part of the $75 savings and license two additional computers. You are then getting a license for three computers for $125 which is still $25 less than the regular price of Out Of Your Head.
We still feel that $25 is not a huge amount of money to license an additional computer.

Just to clarify, I agree. I'm just doing the math that I'd have to pay 25 x 3 for each new preset, correct? If it's just 25 for each system, then I'm good.

Hi djfluffkins, OK, yes, you are correct. Sorry about that, I was talking about licensing one preset for each additional system. So yes, unfortunately you are correct, it's $25 x 3 to license an additional preset on three systems.
I agree, if you are looking at licensing three systems with more than one preset, it does start to add up significantly. But most people use one or two presets and don't necessarily need all their presets on three different systems.
In the past, if someone buys all the presets, I have offered to license two systems for the price of one. But I understand that buying all the presets is also cost prohibitive for most people.
Please contact us directly via our website contact form and we can discuss a possible solution for you.
