I wore these gloves on a recent overnight snowshoe/snow camping excursion around Mt Rainier and found them lacking. Temps got down below 20F (I think it was 16°) and it dumped about 12". I didn't do anything crazy with them, just standard snow camping stuff. Pitched a tarp, shoveled snow, melted snow for water, etc. I didn't handle any rope or rock of any kind. Before I slept I noticed that the fabric between the fingers was fraying like crazy. Pretty shocking for about 6 hrs of normal use. They definitely kept me warm and dry but started falling apart in the process. The fraying got worse the next day from breaking camp and hiking out. I returned them to REI the following week and ordered some bomber Hestra gloves that have held up perfectly. I would guess my experience w the Arete was an isolated incident but had to let you folks know. Also, I love OR and have several pieces of theirs that are excellent. Just a heads up.
