OM357I'm fairly certain that they are not snake proof, but with that said it does add a Nother thick layer for the snake to get through so it should help, but they are definitely not snake proof.

OM357no, they aren't idiot proof either. Sometimes I put them on incorrectly until I remember the seam is in the front.

OM357If you don't go harassing snakes they won't bite you. Snakes would rather run than confront something many times their size, venom or no.

BlueCrownedMaybe in general, and certainly moreso in NA, mate, but by itself the advice of “if you don’t harass snakes they won’t bite you” is crap advice in Australia, India and through into SE Asia and the Middle East, where there are plenty of venomous species that can be rather aggressive. Make all the noise you want, its a good idea and it’ll scare off most - but if an Eastern Brown, Coastal Taipan, or in India a Krait or a Russell’s Viper is feeling tetchy, you’re $41t out of luck. https://environment.des.qld.gov.au/wildlife/livingwith/snakes/near-you/snakes_of_southeast_queensland.html
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-44253586 Hell, a couple of weeks ago I saw a lady bitten by a carpet snake (non-venomous python) in the local national park, about 5km from the CBD. Sure, it was well camouflaged and sleeping in amongst the roots of a tree, and she accidentally stepped ON the snake - I’m not sure who was more surprised, the nice lady or the poor bugger that bit her! Carpet snakes are generally cool, decent animals to live near, as they keep vermin populations down (particularly in the roofs of old houses) and are not a big worry. Nevertheless, it was a nasty bite, because pythons (and similarly non-venomous snakes) don’t do the fairly standard venomous snake strike/inject/let go/wait for prey to die/feast. Pythons tend to have backward facing fangs to hang on to their prey. ... and this carpet snake hung on, so the lady had a few kilos of snek attached to her calf for 10-20 seconds, which she found somewhat disconcerting. After her hopping about for a bit, it let go and skulked off into the nearby creek to have a long hard think about itself. My family did some basic first aid, called the ambulance, and the lady is fine, BTW. TL;DR - Dont walk through long grass if you can help it, make lots of noise if you do, be prepared that some species of venomous snake will aggressively have a crack at you even if you do all the right things - and any snake will have a go at you if accidentally surprised - and don’t take snake advice from random people on the Internet, even me. In other news, gaiters are great, they act as an extra layer of (semi-) protection, and keep muck out of your boots!
