Anyone have a comparison to Prana Stretch Zions? Those have been my go to lightweight hiking pant but I am a fan of OR gear so am curious how these compare.

westcoastThese are thinner and lighter, but not very suitable for hot weather. The Zion feels like it is kinda good for every task, and these are very comfy and good for fall/spring (my opinion only).

westcoastI own the Zions in 2 shorts, 2 pants and 1 zip off, and just received these. Initial impressions of the Ferrosi is: 1. Feel like the inseam is really long, longer than expected but the fabric feels softer to the touch. I wear a size Lg 30 in Prana Zion, and the size 36 of the Ferrosi are a couple of inches too long for daily wear, i'll need to cinch them up to really use I think. 2. The Ferrosi is much better against water, though i've not worn after washing. I was able to trap water on the fabric and it wouldn't soak in, even if trying to rub into the pants. The zion will definately absore moisture (water sweat etc.); however it does dry quickly enough 3. The Prana is still my go to for hiking, climbing etc since i've never had an issue with overheating, love that they seem indestructable and the Ferossi I got more for my Alpine adventures. 2 useless cents perhaps, best of luck in the decision.

J-LegHey Thanks , the water resistance would be a big plus in the PNW! The Prana DWR doesn't seem to last long however I have had some durability issues with Prana. I have 4 pairs and its been 2 with issues and 2 that have no issues despite similar usage. Mostly the spandex on one pair seems to be breaking down ( maybe received a lot more UV? ) and another pops stitches a lot. Overall though they are still my go to pant because of how breathable and how much freedom of movement they offer.
It seems the Ferrosi won't be as light/breathable as the Prana. Do either of you find the Ferrosi to have a similar ability in stretch or is the movement a little more restricted? That is my main concern as OR tends to cut stuff slimmer that if its a slimmer leg and slightly less stretchy it may not have the same range of movement as the Stretch Zion's.

westcoastThe Ferrosi are definitely a tighter fit, but don't feel less strechy. That being said, I have yet to hike with them and really put them to the test as it is still summer here, and the Zion's are just better for the heat.

westcoastThe Ferrosi feels like the fabric is more elastic to me for sure, but the fit is definately tigher in the crotch area. Does not restrict ability to highstep or stretch out, but not the same comfortable gusseted area from the Prana either. The fabric and fit feel better to the skin to me on the Ferrosi, however i've yet to wear them rock climbing or hiking in any real heat so I can't compare them to the Prana Zion pants which I wore climbing this weekend on a 45 minute hike with 1500' gain if relative comfort.
I've worn the Zion for years and have had -0- issues at all with them in the wear and tear department despite beating them up in the woods and rock, and i've not put the Ferrosi through the proverbial wringer at all like this so i've still got some bias toward my tried and true Zion's. Not sure how they'll handle heat, sweat and abuse from the rocks and brush, but I love the feel of the Ferrosi more, outside of the tighter crotch area.
Edit: I've since taken these out climbing indoors and out, as well as many hikes in the heat, and in the snow.
I've yet to really need a base layer, even in the 30s as long as I'm moving, but they are not going to keep warm chilling below 50 degrees.
Held up very well, no pilling, 5-10 washes and the water repellent coating has held up well.
Need a smaller size with recent weight loss, hoping they drop again before a trek to Nepal. Love to buy another pair.
Edit 1/25/18: With time i've really grown to like the Ferrossi over the Zion. I still wear my Zions quite a bit, the the Ferrossi just call to me to wear them more. I've bought a smaller size in the recent drop and they fit comfortably, dress up a little nicer and have overall become the pants that I want to wear everyday whether in town or wandering around the PNW wood and mountains. On the DWR coating and water resistance, this has washed out at this point, though I think it's partly my fault and I need to start washing with different detergents and removing the fabric softener when I wash.
