This is my second Men's Foray Aspire Jacket (my dog used the first one as an expensive chew toy). I love that this jacket has lots of adjustabilities. I've used it on multiple camping and hiking trips and have survived even the worst downpours. It's also my go-to during bad weather while not out in the wild.
I bought this jacket because it's so lightweight and has an overall small footprint, for days that might be windy and/or rainy, but not really cold enough to take out something heavier.
Really saved me on my latest trip abroad, flew for a few days with just a single backpack with only short-sleeved shirts and this was sufficient for me in ~15c windy conditions with the occasional shower, as well as small enough to fit in a 28l backpack with the rest of my clothes and so on.
I'm 174cm and the M size fit me perfectly.
Overall, very happy with the purchase.
Very nice jacket, but a bit slim for those of us with broad shoulders
I received my Outdoor Research Foray in a size XL from Massdrop a few days ago. I've already had the chance to use it in the seemingly never ending rain here in North Carolina. The jacket performed very well and I found the fit and finish to be excellent. The fit is a bit slim through the body as well as the shoulders, so I find the comfort level to be less than optimal. I typically wear an XL in other jackets, so my thought is the Foray is a bit slimmer than others.
The good:
Adjustable - Waist cinch, bottom zipper on both sides with a wide range of movement. Armpit zippers. Hood cinch.
Large pockets.
Lightweight
The bad:
Not the most waterproof. Good for light rain. Heavy rain conditions soak this thing. I had to wear another jacket layer underneath to prevent chill effect from the dampness of this jacket. Not sure if there are different levels of gore-tex effectiveness but if there are then this is a lower level.
Great purchase and used it to hike an Indonesian volcano and through tropical storms here in Asia. Great fit, love the side zippers that really helps with breathability. Very versatile jacket and packs into its pocket for easy transport or storage. And its GoreTex. I use this more often than my North Face Venture.
