Saying that this jacket 'offers all the protection of a hardshell without sacrificing the comfort of a softshell' is not only incorrect, it's down right deceptive and dishonest. Without a proper waterproof membrane and seam taping, there's just no way that this jacket offers even a fraction of the protection that a hardshell offers. This jacket will wet out as fast as any DWR-treated softshell, and much faster than ones which use technologies like Gore WindStopper.

Water “resistant” won’t cut it in the San Juan mountains of Colorado. Seriously, I’d be dead (from hypothermia) with this instead of a proper waterproof shell as protection from sustained rainfall out there. YMMV.
