On a scale of 1–10; just how patriotic are these seeds?

JaytalIsn't a seed vault in case something catastrophic happens? Wouldn't I want the hardiest, highest yield seeds available rather than the heirloom?

Thank you. I was wondering about germination rate as it wasn't mentioned anywhere on the page. It is really a shame their rates are so low but I can't say it's unexpected. When sellers don't mention such things it is only natural to assume they either don't care or don't disclose such information, which in both cases is bad.

If you are outside of the US, do check your local restrictions on importing plant materials. In my case, the UK Animal and Plant Health Agency stopped the package in customs and removed/destroyed several of the seed packets. They do not ship with a Phytosecurity Certificate.

Do these come with a phytochemical certificate for import purposes? Has anyone had any problems getting these through customs in Japan? At the airport they will open each and every pack and visually inspect them, but my impression is that seeds received by mail just get trashed. I don't think that they let corn seed in under any circumstances.

CloacaThey don't and as a result your national environmental/agricultural agency (in the UK, the National Animal & Plant Health Agency) will stop it in customs and pull out/destroy any offending seeds. This happened to my package and I lost a reasonable number of packets from the pack as a result. My own fault really; I should have thought of it. Of course, check your local laws, as I imagine some countries could take a far more draconian line on this than others...

Is anybody having problems with some of the seeds? For example I can't seem to get a single peppermint seed to germinate.

My response was to halfbellstate, who posted: "For example I can't seem to get a single peppermint seed to germinate." Sounds like a germination problem to me! Before you post directions on how to read, you should make sure you're up to speed yourself - who I was responding to is quite clear in my post (it's in a little lozenge or cartouche at the start of my post), and you come off both stupid and needlessly rude.

And yet I'm by no means the only person reporting that germination rates are poor. Clearly someone forgot to inform my allotment that I have no gardening experience!

Non-GMO=lower germinating rate=less yield=low ability against disease and pest=less nutrition... why in the world would I torture myself in a survival situations with those?

You clearly don't know what you are talking about. GMO crops are genetically modified to include pesticides like with BT Corn, or resist herbicides like GMO Soy.
That is a very distinct separation from hybridization, which selectively breeds plants to get specific traits like disease resistance. One is natural, the other is not.
There IS a difference between Hybrid and GMO.
Please read up on the subject more.

CrabMcNasty Best to store seeds like these in a cool, dry, dark location. Some use a fridge. Best kept under 70 degrees.
