Great for beginners and veterans alike, the Pelikan Jazz Elegance fountain pen has a toned-down appearance that’s well-suited for professional settings. Measuring just under 5.5 inches capped, the Jazz ranks among the smallest pens in the Pelikan family Read More
This Pelikan pen is distinctive compared to most Pelikans. The pen has an elegant look and feel, writes well and cleans easily. At the price point, I can carry it without worry.
The pen itself is beautiful, but it writes terribly. Both nib sizes are scratchy and it drops mid word and hard starts with a cartridge or converter. Great desk candy, terrible pen.
I find that the section is a bit slippery, but overall the Jazz Elegance is a pretty good pen at this price point. ($14.99) I had no issues with how the pen wrote. One of the boxes of cartridges (Royal Blue) arrived with only three usable cartridges rather than six due to either rough handling in the postal system or other outside factor. (I bought both the white and the black pens.)
These are my only non piston filler Pelikans, and they support the brand well in my opinion. (I have a 120 Merz & Krell from the 70's, a 140 from the 50's and M150, three M200's and a M400 among the piston filler pens.)
I purchased this pen during the last drop, and it was basically dead on arrival. Would only write with the feed facing upward, and even then it was spotty. Would not write at all in the proper nib-up rotation. No amount of nib flossing or tuning could get it to write properly even after multiple cleanings. This was my first Pelikan and has pretty much soured me on the brand as a whole.
So, just to avoid any confusion. I'm bitter about the incident not because M200 is a bad pen, from the reviews on the internet it seems a great writing instrument. My problem is with Pelikan's treatment of the incident. I expected at least an answer. Sure they could've declined service or replacement based on the fact it is a massdrop. That would've been fine, given that Massdrop did handle the situation and did send me a replacement. It's a normal practice to not deal with a client directly when the situation is covered by a reseller. But Pelikan didn't know it was a massdrop, they didn't ask anything, their system didn't even send an automated reply.
Based on the above I do not trust the company and choose to vote with my wallet as there are no other mechanisms available.
AlexCzarI totally get that. I have the same problem with LAMY 2000, bought through the right channels and lecensed retailer and have no response from them. Pelikan and Faber Castell in Europe have helped me quickly and reliably on a few occasions so... This hobby seems to be one big lottery sometimes. Cheers for sharing your experience and I hope your future will bring you many good pens from now on.
Disappointing! Little feedback from the nib - pleasant enough appearance but if writing means more than just that then look elsewhere.
By the way - I modified the underside of my pen's nib by fine-sanding it smooth on fine Micromesh (8000 grit), removing almost all the tipping material. Had to keep testing during the process until a good nib response happened, now an italic writer with great drag.
Big improvement, but not for the faint-hearted though!
