I purchased this pen during the last drop, and it was basically dead on arrival. Would only write with the feed facing upward, and even then it was spotty. Would not write at all in the proper nib-up rotation. No amount of nib flossing or tuning could get it to write properly even after multiple cleanings. This was my first Pelikan and has pretty much soured me on the brand as a whole.

kpsperaThis costs a fraction of the M205 - which from my opinion is where the "real" Pelikan pens begin. They are worlds apart and I would strongly suggest that you don't value the brand on this really cheap pen. You'll do yourself a disservice. Just saying - and sorry for your bad experience with the pen. I know plenty of such moments and they sucks... :(

kpsperaI’ve had a couple of pens that were like that. Sometimes the tines are so tight together that no ink will flow at all.

F00lw0lfHeh, unfortunately that is not entirely true. I have an M200 with the same problems as described by @kpspera . Pelikan didn't even acknowledge my support request. Fortunately Massdrop did and I'm waiting for a replacement. I can only hope that it is not DOA as the first one. That said after some really rough tuning by me pen does write, albeit with hard starts and skips here and there. I'm pretty much waiting for the ink to run out to put it into "maybe-repare-someday" drawer, in hope of ever getting to a pen show where a nibsmith could maybe fix it or sourcing a replacement nib unit on the cheap.

AlexCzarWell, there seems to be a disaster for every success story when it comes to fountain pens - still I would argue that Pelikan M205 have a pretty solid reputation around the FP community. I'm not saying your experience isn't valid - only one of the few unfortunate bad ones. That Pelikan doesn't acknowledge your request would be a sign that the drop is a bit iffy. I had the same with one damnable crap nib from Italix. They didn't want to touch the request knowing it was a Massdrop. I have five other Italix pens that runs like a charm. Not sure what to think about it, but it seems that there is always a certain gamble with pens.

F00lw0lfSo, just to avoid any confusion. I'm bitter about the incident not because M200 is a bad pen, from the reviews on the internet it seems a great writing instrument. My problem is with Pelikan's treatment of the incident. I expected at least an answer. Sure they could've declined service or replacement based on the fact it is a massdrop. That would've been fine, given that Massdrop did handle the situation and did send me a replacement. It's a normal practice to not deal with a client directly when the situation is covered by a reseller. But Pelikan didn't know it was a massdrop, they didn't ask anything, their system didn't even send an automated reply. Based on the above I do not trust the company and choose to vote with my wallet as there are no other mechanisms available.

AlexCzarI totally get that. I have the same problem with LAMY 2000, bought through the right channels and lecensed retailer and have no response from them. Pelikan and Faber Castell in Europe have helped me quickly and reliably on a few occasions so... This hobby seems to be one big lottery sometimes. Cheers for sharing your experience and I hope your future will bring you many good pens from now on.
