View Full Discussion Hey @MeanEYE -- If the White Tortoise is in stock, that looks like a good deal. US customers would pay $13.60 additional for shipping, plus currency exchange fees. Were you able to confirm that any stock of the White Tortoise is actually available? Per the linked webpage:
"For stock, we will contact you after your order, to confirm. Because there is it when there is not the stock of the product, depending on the timing of the order, thank you for your understanding beforehand. "
I attempted to placed an order for a Blue M400 but received a not in stock email. I also asked them what combination of Color/Nib they did have in stock and the only reply I got was Order has being cancel no combination in stock.. The price looks good, but that is all you get.
I was lucky that the same day I got the order cancel reply this Drop showed up.. So now am in for this drop.
Also as I understand it. Iif I need service to the pen in the future (In the USA) Chartpak Inc. will not honor the warranty and you will need to ship your pen to Germany. But I may be wrong on this.
Having ordered from Rakuten Global before I thought I would see how they would do with this M400.
At 10am EDT I placed an order for the M400 White Tortoise through the Rakuten site above. I was able to choose my nib, I chose a Broad. I immediately got an auto-reply email stating they would contact me once they could confirm stock.
At 10pm EDT I got the confirmation email with Paypal payment request for $215.32. this included shipping from Japan to NY and Paypal said it included conversion. I paid it and got a confirmation email stating I will get tracking when they ship.
I may get hit with a small fee for customs but never have in the past.
I will keep you apprised.
Hi @JonasHeineman. Unfortunately I am not able to purchase this pen at this point as I have other, rather more important things to attend to. Site came as a highly recommended through Reddit. Looks like @Recoil_Rob purchased this pen without any major troubles.
USA customers are at disadvantage when using this site it seems as MD probably ships inside of country for free but for us outside, $13.60 as opposed to $13.40 is not big of a difference and site offers, it seems, more options when it comes to nib selection.
Thanks to @MeanEYE for the reply and @Recoil_Rob for doing the research.
We always try to offer the biggest selection and lowest price for all members, US and international.
Sometimes, members in different regions or those who want a particular style may find a few units available from another seller - and when you do, we encourage you taking advantage!
We'll keep trying to give better selection and better prices on Pelikan and all products. Your participation in drops and diligence in scouring the internets for info is always appreciated and helpful.
damn research cost me $215......... ;<)
Or saved you $20? This is why math should be done with pencils, not pens. ;)
Did you happen to pick up a bottle of the Rohrer & Klingner 'Alt-Goldgrun' ink.
It matches the color of this pen almost perfectly, so does Bungbox 88 / Green Tea.
Thanks Jonas, I'll look into it. Matching inks to pen color is one of my predilections. The Bungbox is very nice but at over twice the price of the R&K (probably went into the gorgeous bottle..) plus shipping you should see if you can get a Bungbox drop going.
And, truthfully, saving the $20 was nice but I was more motivated by getting the nib size I wanted.
So I said I would report back on my order from PenHouse through Rakuten, it showed up today, 7 days from Japan. Lovely packaging for the Japanese market, I got my Broad nib, and a bonus bottle of 4001 Royal Blue. Perhaps our US suppliers can do better....
Congratulations on you new pen.. And the free ink is a plus :)
Jonas, the R&K 'Alt-Goldgrun' looks great with the M400 Tortoise but how about 'Scotch Whiskey' from De Atramentis? It even smells like whiskey!
I wish I wasn't so poor. OTL
That's really nice! We just did a drop for the De Atramentis Standard inks, I can ask about the scented ones as well for another drop.
