Product Description
Pelikan’s Souverän M800 Burnt Orange Special Edition features the same size and shape as its standard sibling in a new, eye-catching color. A departure from the collection’s signature Stresemann design, the pen’s warm orange hue complements the dark brown resin of the cap and barrel, complete with an 18-karat two-tone gold nib Read More

Conspicuous in its absence from the list of what is included is the warranty. Unless purchased from a North American Pelikan dealer with a bill of sale Chartpak (Pelikan USA) will not service this pen nor participate in the nib swap program. These are all illegal (in the US) gray market pens.

It may be a matter of semantics, but Pelikan GmbH has a binding contract with Pelikan USA and are not supposed to sell to those companies who have been identified as supplying the gray market. The two big ones are Italy and Malaysia.

tbaleyIt's not totally semantic- if it was illegal you could be prosecuted for the transaction. These are (likely) just unauthorized sales so the manufacturer won't honor the warranty. Now that isn't nothing, this is a brand with a history of quality control issues with their nibs and a really expensive purchase for a lot of us, but it's not illegal from all appearances

It bothers me that they label this a special edition, and then market it multiple times. That makes it less "special" and lowers the value.

Thanks for the education! You know your Pelikans.
I see the distinction between special and limited editions, although I submit that if a special edition keeps being manufactured, at some point it becomes part of the regular product line and not special.
Regarding Chartpak, are you saying that they are not an official Pelikan distributor, but rather get all their pens from dealers? Because if they are an official distributor for Pelikan then, of course, Pelikan certainly can control price gouging. Anyway, it sounds cheaper to fly to Frankfurt to buy my next Pelikan.
Thanks again!

FfoghornChartpak is Pelikan USA, i.e. the official distributor here, so they are the ones who enforce the price. There are conflicting reports on whether this price gouging is done with the official endorsement on the part of Pelikan Gmbh or it's Chartpak's own initiative.

I own this from an Italian source and purchased it for $100 less as well. It really is a beautiful pen. Though it's important to note that there is no window through which you can see the ink level. If this causes you anxiety you should consider another Pelikan model.

i share your positive experience with Cultpens. Got my M800 green there as well. Only order pens with reputable QC from overseas vendors.

Apparently the comments associated with this pen were deleted? I will go ahead and write about my experience when this pen was available last year. October last year this pen was put up here, and I joined the drop, only to find that I could get it for 100 dollars cheaper on cultpens. AND not have to wait over a month for shipping. Not only did I get it for 100 dollars cheaper, but it was shipped to my door in the US from Great Britain in 2 days. Please don't buy this pen from Massdrop
