Product Description
Considered a “grail pen” by many collectors, the Toledo M910 Yellow was produced by Pelikan in very limited quantities beginning 2008. The M910 is the same size as the Souveran M800 and offers the same 18-karat gold nib and large ink capacity, but features a matching translucent yellow ink window and weighs an additional 0.4 oz (11 g) - 40% more than a standard M800 - due to the hand-cut sterling silver binde wrapped around the barrel Read More

Cross threading is not typically and issue with pens. I assume you could but you would almost have to try to do that on purpose .

I'm 38. I spend a few hundred dollars a year on fountain pens, inks, papers, etc. Feel free to make fun of any or all of my purchases on this site (so far, two fountain pen drops and a Clairefontaine paper drop). I really don't care how old you are or what demographic you assume everyone here is part of.

what kind of celluloid or resin is this yellow pen made of? I imagine myself cross threading it on accident and feeling bad.

lobsterIt's made of fossilised velociraptor piss. Hence the price.

I've got a few different Pelikan fountain pens. They are the best writing fountain pens, smooth as silk and one of only two brands of fountain pen I've had that wouldn't blow ink on an airplane. If you'd like a great writing pen, this would be a nice choice.

To all people who like this pen but don't like yellow as a color: if you're really into this pen, and pretty much any other expensive one from european brands, I suggest you to keep an eye out for sales of EU-based online shops. Many of them have, kinda obviously, cheaper prices than US-based ones, and offer VAT-free purchases for non-EU buyers. These two things, combined with the recently low value of Euro, make importing a pen directly from Europe a good deal. Only if you live in a country with low custom fees, clearly. If I were to import this pen in Italy I would end up paying more than how I would buying it from my refernece pen shop (15 minutes underground ride from where I live). For instance (for US buyers), one of the four major online pen shops in Italy (yep, we got four, all of them official TWSBI dealers by the way, which makes us the second country with more TWSBI resellers per person, right after Taiwan. We do love fountain pens!) has the Pelikan Toledo M900 (the more expensive gold trims version) on sale at a discounted price of 1140€. Now, remove 22% VAT, convert to USD, add the 2.7% duty applied on fountain pens, and you get around $1065+shipping fee. Even if you had to pay $100 to ship the pen (if you want an uber-fast 48h international shipment), you would still pay less than pretty much any US shop I've checked. This differences in price might be negligible for cheaper pens, but within this price range they can be extremely high. We're talking about a discount ranging from $250 (cheaper eBay price) to $650 (cheaper online shop). If you have some time to spend on deep web exploration, this might be a good way to get otherwise impossible deals. I got a couple of deals like this myself.

Not everyone has a credit limit to get this. Sadly I don't...
I'm tempted to join this to show my support for the higher end pen drop. Unfortunately I'm just not a fan of yellow. I really hope people who are interested are not letting themselves be influenced by the naysayers.

MyMothersDaughterSeriously though,if you are thinking about this but don't like the yellow you can find a green one with gold trim(which is more expensive then silver of course) for about 1200 euros...
I know that is more but there is always the chance of Massdrop dropping that one.I suggest you wait for that one.
Although I love yellow as a color I think it just looks immature on this pen,it just won't fit with that silver decoration.....

Think we can ante up on pens and get one from this site (http://nakaya.org/en/) on. It'd cost more and look badass.
But not the coolest ones! I have one that I treated myself to from the proceeds of a small life insurance policy when my twin died, to have something special. They take months to come because the finishing process is so precise and needs time in between coats. It doesn't write any better than their more moderately priced pens, but they start out beautiful and grow more beautiful as the lower layers emerge over time. They are distinctive to the eyes that see, but not overpowering or conspicuous to the eyes that do not see. If the right pen were in a drop I'd buy it in a second! And, there are many that would qualify as the right pen.

Where can you get a Nakaya for $400? The cheapest I've seen them start at is $550.

AlanParkLife is not a video game where every last thing can be endlessly leveled up.
Is is beyond the bounds of human knowledge and the laws of physics to build a car better than a $200,000-$500,000 car—you might be able to spend $1,000,000 on a special transmission to eek out an extra 0.01 seconds of speed in the 0-60 or something, but that is diminishing returns at work. Likewise, it is impossible—beyond the limits of human knowledge and skill—to make a better fountain pen than one you can make for $200-$500. So ANY money beyond that, you are paying PURELY for the style, the je-ne-sais-quoi and panache, of the pen. AND THIS PEN IS FUGLY. If it were in a tasteful dark purple or something, I might still scoff at it privately, but I wouldn't feel nearly so comfortable coming on here and making fun of it publicly.
