The flagship model of the Peugeot collection, the Paris salt and pepper mills look like something you’d find on the table at a nice French restaurant—but they’ll make an excellent addition in your kitchen or at the dinner table. Featuring an adjustable grinding system, the mills can be set to a fine or coarse output depending on your preference Read More
I have a Peugeot pepper mill that I bought about 30 years ago. It still works great. While not the same model as what's being offered in this drop, if the quality is similar, then you'll have a pepper mill you can use for the rest of your life.
Is the Salt mill supposed to come with a different nut/knob? I assumed they’d be matching, just one with a S instead the P. Not a big fan of two completely different style nuts
theARK1T3CTWeird, I got one with S and one with the lion design in this last drop. PM me if you want to swap nuts so we both end up with matching ones.
I have an unfortunate experience with the U'Select pepper grinder. I purchased a different style (possibly Chateauneuf?) several years ago. Loved the look, loved the feel, loved the consistency of the grind and the repeatability of the adjustment. It died when the mechanism tore loose from the body. It was held in place by a couple of small screws just seated in the wood of the body.
I got it replaced for free by Peugeot. The same thing happened.
The caveat here is that the damage may have been done by someone in my household not using it correctly. To grind, you hold the middle section of the grinder and turn the top. To someone who has never used it before, it seems to be common for them to grab the bottom (the adjustment ring) and turn the body. This will initially change the grind, as designed. But if the person torques it hard enough, expecting it to grind, it will rip the mechanism loose from the body.
I gave up on them after the second failure. Too bad, because it's a beautiful grinder, has a lovely weight and feel to it, and grinds more consistently than any other mill that I've owned. They just didn't last (both died in less than a year). If you get one, consider only putting it out for people who know how to use it (not my mom, for instance).
The drop price is only for one. If you want the companion grinder the price goes up substantially. I cancelled my order because of this excessive price increase.
