My students always want to try my fountain pens, which frequently means repair work when I get home. Hooray for cheap and disposable pens!
Also, I read that you can actually fill the Varsity as an eyedropper. Has anyone tried that? I bought some years ago and tossed them when they ran out not realizing I could have experimented.

toomanypensIf you ask me, refilling a Varsity is a slight overkill, but I'm a pen enthusiast so don't mind what I say :). Still, a Varsity can be refilled easily enough. You can either go bruteforce and take it apart, but you'll need to apply some silicone grease to prevent leaking. Maybe the first times you won't need it, but after some refills the section might become slightly loose, causing leaking in the event of rapid variations of pressure or such. Or, you can use the "gentle" method, that involves using a syringe cut to the mean diameter of the grip section so that it can get tightly stuck on it, or a smaller syringe with a coupling. The method itself is quite hard to explain without images, so I'll just post a video I've just found on YouTube that explains it quite well:

AlexGkThe vacuum video was actually fascinating. Makes me want to try at least once just for the sake of science! :)
