Anyone familiar with this cartridge? Does it erase well? Does it write well?

tyler555It writes pretty well, with no bleed-through or serious smudging. It erases, not quite to colorless, but rather to a pale straw-yellow. I generally use it on yellow pads, anyway, so I don't notice.
Because its 'erasing' function is actually more of a heat-sensitive color change, the ink still remains on the paper, so writing over previously-written areas may cause the ink to not adhere to the paper, instead beading slightly. This last bit is really only a problem if you're covering a large area in ink, though (e.g. you're drawing solid black squares for some reason).
The eraser nub is not your normal eraser (normal pencil erasers don't work for erasing this pen), and instead is actually a plastic dome covered in some rubbery substance. It doesn't produce noticeable amounts of dust. It does, however, wear down to the plastic (which can't be used for erasing, either) after heavy use, and is not replaceable.
The ink goes surprisingly fast; I usually average one cartridge a month with regular use.
Finally, the plastic versions go for much less online (like $9 for a pack of 7 on Amazon).

SkipOrtensYeah I will have to pass. I make mistakes a lot, but I like pens. I would like a pen that would write and feel like a pen, but erase like a pencil. However, most of them that I find don't erase well or don't erase at all like you said. Oh well. I might find one eventually.

tyler555I think that if you want to give the Frixion pens a shot (and I recommend trying it out for yourself, since everyone has different preferences of pens), then you should buy a plastic version instead, and not splurge unnecessarily on this 'premium' version.

tyler555Not to doubt the original reply, but I have used a lot of these pens and they always erase cleanly on white paper. I've used all the colours and even the fine point refills and all erase cleanly and perfectly and because it writes smoothly the paper is rarely marked. This is pricey, grab a cheap pack of the clickers to try.
I've also never had the nubs wear down and I've been using these pens daily for two years now. It sounds like the replier either has a very old version or possibly even counterfeits which arent unheard of as outside Japan and europe they were a high value import until recently.

tyler555No dude not true! I use them everyday for school and love them. 'them' because there's a much cheaper version (3USD) and to me, the only noticible difference is the body of the pen. It erases very and unless you were to get the 0.7mm version and smudge it everywhere, you shouldnt EVER have any huge issues. Link below for one of the many cheaper versions. http://www.pilotpen.com.au/writing-instruments/gel-ink-pens/frixion-ball-erasable-pen

warriorscotDefinitely not a counterfeit; I live in a country where Pilot has a very extensive distribution network and can be found at just about any stationers.
Maybe it's just the paper I'm using, or maybe because I press rather hard when writing, but it's definitely a pale yellow that is juust noticeable if you are looking for it. I wouldn't use it for writing a formal letter on fancy stationary, is my point. Anything else is probably okay.
And I'm a messy worker, so I erase a lot, (like, half a page gone on a regular basis) therefore I specifically mentioned "heavy use" when it comes to nub wear.

warriorscotThanks for this post, you've left some great info here. There's a demo video on the description page that shows how this is really different from other erasable ink pens. We have offered the plastic body version of the FriXion before, and we may be able to run that drop again if enough members request it.

JonasHeinemanI got the standard one before, unfortunately this is still about five dollars cheaper on my local amazon with free next day delivery. I would be interested in a pack of fine line versions, at the moment I buy the refills for the o5 fine line frixion and replace the existing roller balls. Would be nice to get a standard version.

SkipOrtensPilot distribute here too, but the frixions were always rare outside Japan up until quite recently which is why I mentioned it. Even big stores in Europe were selling imports a couple of years ago.
It may be the way you write and erase, it doesn't need a lot of force, I suspect you'll find being a bit more gentle gets you longer on the erasers, and the lighter you write the cleaner it erases. But you must be leaning hard enough you are about ready to start a fire to wear them down.
It may be your paper, even erased the page will be slightly darker if you look hard but still the same colour(slightly wet look, but the inks still there is just transparent so is expected). I've actually found the better the paper the cleaner it erases, and if you're using nice paper I wouldn't make a mistake and if I did better one of these than the alternative.

warriorscotHi @warriorscot -- Are you in Europe? Here in the US, the FriXion LX is not listed on Amazon at all. We always try to offer the best price to Massdrop members in any country, but sometimes you may find a cheaper retailer locally. You are correct about this product only being offered outside Japan until recently, thanks for adding to the discussion. -- Jonas

tyler555I have a different version of this. They write well but the eraser isn't always perfect. If you have lined paper it might erase some of that and if you write and erase one place over and over again it might cause problems on that spot. Most of the pens has the same refillable cartride that you can but for like 3 bucks. The only issue I have with this sale is that I can buy these pens and the plastic versions for about half the price.
