I'm a little confused about what is being offered in this drop. The description says that each pen comes with a CON-20 converter. If the pens are coming with what is "normally" included with a Metropolitan, then the converter is not the CON-20, although I'm not sure what it's called. The usually included converter is a very capable squeeze/aerometric converter with nearly a full ml. capacity. However, the CON-20 is a slightly fancier squeeze converter sold separately. I believe the squeeze converter and and the CON-20 have similar ink capacities.
Could someone please clarify? And, of course, apologizes if this has been answered elsewhere. In the product description (as of 10/25/14) it specifies that the "CON-20" is included.
Thanks much.
GonzoTGreatThe converter pictured on the Description page is the less fancy converter - which I've seen described elsewhere as a 'CON-10' converter (though maybe someone was making that up?). It's a very serviceable converter - though if you don't like it, you can simply rinse and refill the cartridge that comes with the pen. Or you can buy a CON-20 (or I think a CON-50).
Re "scratchiness" of the Fine nib, I agree with @KarlBlessing: I have only one Metropolitan, it's a fine, and I don't find it scratchy at all. Just a little 'toothy', maybe? - you can feel it interacting with the paper as it writes - but that's pretty common with fine nibs.
Jamerelbe@Jamerelbe , I'm not sure of the name of the stock converter that comes with the Metropolitan, either, but I know it's not the CON-20. However, the descriptions still says the following (copied from the description page about a minute ago):
"Included
Gift box
Black ink cartridge
CON-20 aerometric converter"
Unless the CON-20 is actually included, this is an incorrect description. It could be corrected by simply dropping the "CON-20" and simply listing the included converter as an "aerometric converter" without any other specification.
To the fine folks at Massdrop: Please correct this before the end of the drop window or confirm that the CON-20 is the converter that's included. If the CON-20 is included, I'm very tempted to join the drop. If it's not, I'd rather just pass on this one, as I'm already participating a different fountain pen drop.
Thank you.
JamerelbeLet me be clear:
The aerometric converter that is typically included with the Metro is very capable and durable. I have used it as a converter and have no problem with it at all. This is not a criticism of the standard converter included. I just think it might be a idea for the Massdrop folks to chime in here (or change the drop description) simply to clarify which converter is included with the drop.
