Hopefully someone can help me, i bought this one on amazon worked for like 3 years and just overnight it developed an issue as soon as i started using an amazon subwoofer cable that goes from 1 rca to 2 rca supposedly this is a subwoofer grade cable but idk if i might have pressed too hard on the outputs of the subwoofer when connecting and that might have caused this type of issue. The issue is that the unit gets very hot while connected to the power outlet and it just briefly turns the led indicator on and goes off again immediately. I was thinking that could have been something about those outputs maybe getting pressed too hard at something that conducts current or it could be something else cause i decided to open it since there was a hum but i ended up not touching anything when i opened it, just looked around for a bit if i could see any indication to what could be causing the hum to not find anything. The main issue besides it not turning on is that it gets very hot very quickly somewhere near the plugs and transformer area. It is very strange cause the night before this happened i used the unit and it worked fine. I think it worked fine even after i opened and closed the back of the unit to check for the hum. Anyone had this happened to them or something similar and could u find a way to fix it?

Once again, another drop where the price leaves you wondering. $349.99USD regular price. Sure. But somehow it's available locally for $198CAD regular price (about $150USD).
Cferrer1983No. Sorry, but bad idea. It is not 12v - it is for home use, so it is 110v. You'd need to pay for an inverter that could handle a 400w load. And risk over-loading your car's battery and alternator. You can get a quality car subwoofer that is 12v and made to fit in a car.
zep483You're right. Human hearing goes down to 20hz and ht (and music) often goes below 20. I would never get a sub that couldn't go to 20. I don't see the point and I'm surprised Jones puts his name on one that doesn't go down to the industry standard. Misses the entire point of having a sub. This drop is disappointing for many reasons. The 8" is worthless and shouldn't even be made - 100w peak? You'd need that on full blast just to hear it. I'm a fan of Jones (have his ELAC amp) and this makes no sense.
OsideTThe ported factor on the 8 actually is very helpful. Its not the tightest bass in the world but it definitely does the job for most music. Only disappointed on a few tracks here or there, but I have one in a medium size room and it is very surprising. Having said that, I would only use it for music or TV only environment. I would never use it for HT. It also has pretty good musicality, the 10 doesn't seem as musical for some odd reason. I only have my 8 turned up to about 3/8ths in a two channel set up, and it does a good job... would I rather have a rythmik... sure, but for about 100 bucks, I don't know if there is a lot that can compete with it- even some of the budget 10/12's don't sound as good. imho. I think that's why Jones puts his name on it, because for what it is, its pretty good... but I think its marketed in a silly way (for HT and such).
treal512I would think that all 3 would all be a good fit for MD, but they also seem to sell direct, which would seem to negate some of the potential for discounts. IMO, MD is especially good for offering higher end products in special MD-xx versions at great prices. Those have been worth the wait.
Watt ratings are a touchy subject with speakers. Manufacturers for years used different standards to advertise the highest number they could. RMS is emerging as the new standard, but not all manufacturers are playing along. You are correct that rms is the number to use to compare with other speakers. BUT, the higher number (known as "peak") is still important because your amp needs to be able to handle that power. When multiple speakers are attached to an amp, you want an amp that can handle the combined peak of all connected speakers.
