Does anyone know how many people have to request these speakers for them to offer these again? Is there a way to promote a product here so people know it can be requested? Sorry, I'm new here. Also, Fry's had these on clearance recently for $169.00 each. Sadly I missed that price. Does Massdrop have the buying power to get pricing like that? I have to believe they'd sell a ton of these if they could also hit the under $400/pair mark. Fry's was sold out of these quickly :(

Coax. Essentially the same design they were using for $20 6x9's in the '80's.

My strong suspicion is the upward facing and front facing driver components are identical units, yet the writer describes each unit separately AND differently.
In fact, I'm going to make the rather strong claim that a single unit cannot be created which has the tweeter integrated (flush) at the APEX of a 4" driver, as stated. Doing so would put the tweeter smack in the middle of the surround, also interfering with 'balance' of the larger driver.
Yamaha, and I'm sure others, have designed the larger driver with a 'bite' in the mount to reduce distance between centers, but the tweeter is still outside the radius of the bigger driver.

SpecialEdThey use two different (but still accurate) words to describe the same driver. Apex is the top or highest point of something... in this case a speaker cone, the tip or center of that cone is the apex. There are many schools of thought on how to achieve a single point source for the mid and treble drivers. I have an offset D'Apollito array in my tower speakers, KEF, ELAC, Pioneer and others use concentric drivers, yet another is using a full range driver like those employed by Tannoy. You are accurate that designing a proper concentric driver is difficult, this particular speaker was designed during Andrew Jones tenure at Pioneer. If there is a designer I would trust to understand the pitfalls and benefits of this type of driver, he would most certainly be one of them.

If these were the Andrew Jones Floorstanding SP-FS52, I'd buy them instantly. As much as I want the Elite... I don't reallly need a $700 set of Atmos speakers.

I own a pair of these speakers matched with a Pioneer Elite SC-99 receiver, the matching center, four matching bookshelf speakers, and an ALAC 12" Sub. These speakers are all Andrew Jones Designed. My setup is 7.1.4 (speakers. sub. Atmos) It is a very good Home Theater setup in my opinion.
Note: these speakers are 4ohms making them harder to pair with a receiver. Most cheaper receivers are 8ohms. Also if you want to use the Atmos top firing drivers in addition to the front firing speakers you will need a compatible Atmos processor/receiver and the amp/wiring to support each channel i.e. for each of these speakers you will run 2 pairs of wires (one pair for the front and one pair for the top firing). Monoprice sells 4 conductor speaker wire perfect for these. Also I recommend getting some of the Monoprice 90degree/right angle banana plugs to terminate the wires. A straight banana plug does not fit well with these speakers from the side and sticking them straight into the center of the post is not too secure. In order to drive all of these speakers with my SC-99 I had 7.1.4 channels of Atmos processing but only 9 channels of amplification. So I took my older Onkyo 876 and connected it via RCA to the Pioneer and amplified the last 2 channels.

Perhaps the category manager is unaware stereo speakers are typically used in pairs? Might even think Alexa is a “speaker”?

The industry standard is to sell these speakers individually. MD, once again, is too lazy to clarify whether they are selling a single speaker or a pair.

Mridul_rathiI don't know that it's an accusation when he is pointing out that they simply didn't list it clearly. Sure, he can (and most certainly did) figure it out after some looking...but I think his point was that he shouldn't have to do that, which is fair
