(Old update thread here.) Sept 17th Update: Unfortunately shipments of the latest Planck run will be delayed. Final PCB sign-off took longer than anticipated, and some of the component lead times slipped after we ordered them. We've been told all of the PCBs will be complete by October 9th, and then compiling and packaging all of the kits will take approximately 10 days, with the shipment being ready on October 19th. Air freight from China should have the pallets of ~2000 kits at our warehouse around 10/26, and we should be shipping around 10/31. We'll be posting in the discussions with weekly updates to let you know if/when these timelines shift. Thanks for your patience! Oct 1st Update: Working on getting you guys an updated ETA from the vendor. Haven't heard from them but should have some info in the coming days. Oct 6th Update: Nothing new to share, I'm thinking we'll get a progress report from the CM in the next day or two. We should know whether the PCBs are done or not really soon... Oct 7th Update: Contract manufacturer said everything is on track to be done by 10/19 as per previous expectations. Stay tuned. Oct 12th Update: Will get another update for everyone shortly. Oct 14th Update: Still on track based on our latest communications from the contract manufacturer. Oct 19th Update: Shipping out of China has slipped a few days, nothing major but the manufacturer said they needed a couple of days to get everything finalized and in perfect shape. Expecting to get our inbound freight tracking around Oct 21/22. Oct 23rd Update: Cargo has been picked up from the factory and is going to make its way to us. Shipping queues are quite lengthy (and volatile) and we've been told we should expect the cargo in the first week of November. This changes daily depending on the flights going back and forth from Asia and the availability. I'll update again middle/end of next week. Oct 28th Update: Cargo arrived at JFK tonight a bit ahead of schedule. It still needs to clear customs (fingers crossed it happens on Thurs/Friday), then it needs to get booked onto a truck and taken to our warehouse, and then unpacked + counted, repacked + shipped. I'd still use Nov 6th as the estimated shipping date, it could move forwards, or backwards by a few days.

There’s RGB on the PCBA and you can play around with it on the QMK Firmware

but the sad thing is that we don't have LED diffuser on the case... so I believe even the PCB has RGB, still can't use it much.

Would this keyboard work if I plugged it into my chromebook? I am looking into getting a small keyboard I can carry around for daily use and this one seems very nice.

Yeah, it should work like any normal keyboard. Assuming your chromebook has usb ports. EDIT: It might be dificult to change the firmware with a chromebook, but I'm not entirely familiar with it. If you have a windows pc laying around you should use that to change the layout of the keyboard.

Yeah I have a windows desktop, would definitely be using that to work with the keyboard firmware. Thanks for the reply!

I see that the drop is active again. Is that for the same Batch that is in production right now? Am I able to change from a MidPro to a high-pro?

Same question
It's likely that Drop ordered enough of them to keep in stock. As per Kevin's response to the main thread above, Drop is trying to keep things like Plancks and Preonics in stock as much as possible, rather than relying on group buys because of how manufacturers have such wiggly production schedules.

Anyone else thinking of adding some epoxy or glue gun glue on the usb port just in case it might still be an issue?

Do usb C magnetic adapters work with keyboards, or are there specific brands/types that work better than others.

Baseus Zinc (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Baseus-Zinc-Magnetic-Cable-Type-C-/164323916952) works with my planck without any issues so far.

For both the hi-pro and mid-pro kit, is the plate the same? Specifically, are they the same as the high-pro/mid-pro plate on OLKB.com? https://olkb.com/products/planck-hi-mid-pro-switch-plate I'm hoping the plate that comes with the mid-pro plate is compatible with the current Datamancer planck case drop: https://drop.com/buy/datamancer-planck-hardwood-case

Been pretty quiet since the last update, Spet. 12, and we're 2 days away from the estimated drop date. Got a bad feeling about this one my guys

To be fair, this is how manufacturing is allot. I have clients in the industry and see it all the time. With runs this small it's even more common. It's an estimated ship date for a reason.

It’s a common theme here on Drop still. It’s fine if they keep us informed and just tell us like it is. You don’t say you’ll get back to the client and then leave them hanging and come back with bad news like that. Especially with this hobby since you can’t return a lot of components you purchased

Just an FYI for those who want PCBs.... https://olkb.com/products/planck-pcb (the olkb group buy is run by Jack, ships in December, and is just for the pcb. This group buy is run by Drop and ships in September; they’re completely different group buys)

The number of LEDs is actually 9, my bad for copying it not correctly, so I suppose 4 on top 4 on bottom and 1 in the center. I suppose through QMK you can do everything with LEDs and I am actually prone to think that the default is going to be off, since I am sure most of the cases are going to be aluminium. In any case this feature is not really adding anything for me. Underglow RGB is not something I need. It would have rather be cooler to have some lighting to have a diffuse backlit keyboard, even if it's not per key, although of course ultimately the Planck EZ setup with per key RGB LEDs is what they are going to go for. That would make sense to me since you can use the lighting to highlight layers, which might be really cool way to learn

I don't think the pcb supports per key LEDS but it does have the holes for it, so maybe there will be a daughter board kit later to add it
