Hello everyone! I have been looking for a mechanical keyboard that I could carry around for both my OTG compatible table (for which I have been using Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 5000) and my work. I've been watching plank keyboards and I really want to get one, but I am confused as to what and how to go about it, especially the switch side. I am simply looking to get this model, all a while being able to work at work and at home and have some fun from time to time playing a game or two (mostly FPS) on the side. (while at home). I've read that Cherry MX switches are the most silent ones and adding O-Rings (as I have done so far for my Rosewill Kailh Brown Switches keyboard) will reduce the sound even further. I work in a call center and I enter mostly data (so using a small sized keyboard that reduces the travel distance of both my fingers, palms, my wrists and my arm is a MUST for me at this point) and I want to make it as silent as possible. What configuration would one suggest ? Any thoughts ? If any of you have sites to suggest (to learn more on the subject), feel free to share (I like learning new things). Thanks!

FiR3KYou probably wanna get Cherry Silent switches and no O-rings, that's more silent and feels better than other switches with O-rings. You need to buy those seperately though, and "Cherry MX Silent Red" is a different switch from "Cherry MX Red". Red is a more standard light weight, black is heavier. Both PCB-mount and Plate-mount switches work for this. None of the other options affect loudness significantly, so just choose whichever you think looks the best :)

FiR3KI have personal experience with two silent switches. Zeal's Blue Zilents (MX mount) and Matias Quiet Click (Alps mount). Both are tactile and impressively silent. I prefer the Zilents which are my daily drivers at work right now. I used Matias Quiet Click for 6 months before these and while they are also sufficiently silent I never loved the feel. Check out the Chyrosran22 Youtube channel. He has a video on the 10 most silent keyboard switches. Not all of them are mechanical though but he mentions both the Zilents and the Matias Quiet Click if I remember correctly.

FiR3KThere are a lot of factors that contribute to keyboard noise: case, plate, switch and cap all influence the sound. There are so many good switches these days that it’s hard to go wrong. I use QMK clips in a couple of my boards, and they are almost as effective as the ZealPC Zilents I have. That said, I use Gateron Greens at work and on the go and have never had any complaints about the noise.

FiR3KThanks for taking the time to replay @gimpel , @hampusk and @PoisonOak and sorry for the late response. I work in a call center and the clacking of my Kailh brown switches can be heard when doing phone call customer quality control (helping agents improve upon their skills, as opposed to tossing them out the door for "bad customer service" ), so it can become quiet annoying when you are listening to the call and through the playback, I can hear my own keyboard typing ( :D ) going "click, clack, clock..." . I will further look into different type switches and educated my self, thanks for getting me into the right direction !!! P.S. If any one else would like to leave his two cents on the matter, please feel free to do so, as I am sure that this could help other people as well.
