August 14th Update: Hey everyone, some info for you all. We've updated our supply chain for this run of the Planck and are making a couple small revisions to the PCB design. Our current expected ship date from the manufacturer is September 16th, but given the revisions there is a small chance it will be pushed by a few days. I have reasonable hopes that it won't be affected too severely, and given the typical transit times I expect this to be in our warehouse around the 26th-30th but I'll post more solid dates as I get more information over the next few days.   For the USB ports: we have seen reports about the USB port failure in the Planck and while we don’t believe the number of affected units to be that high as a percentage, it’s still higher than we would like it to be. Having looked at it, it was determined that the last round of PCB’s were made within specification, but some of the solder joints that support the USB port would benefit from extra reinforcement. This next round will be made by a different manufacturer that we have had good results with and have additionally asked that they pay particular attention to this joint during production. These steps should reduce the number of USB port failures to a much more acceptable range, while acknowledging that the USB port is always going to be one of the higher points of failure due to it being one of the most stressed components.  All that said, if anyone is experiencing issues with their USB port, please get in touch with Community Support so they can get you an exchange or refund.   As mentioned, I'll post back with more details as I get them, but that will probably be next week so have a great weekend everyone. August 25th Update: Just got off the phone with Yanbo. The manufacturer is getting ready to make the new version of the PCB and will then send it over to Jack for review. All of the required components are on hand so once Jack approves of everything on his end then we can go full speed ahead on production. There are quite a few lengthy steps between here and there so leave room for some flexibility, but at this point we think September 26-30th is still within reason. If anything happens to change that, then I'll update as soon as I find out. Let you all know when I have news. September 4th Update: Jack has signed off on the revised PCB sample and production has commenced in earnest. Should have a good idea of some dates early next week. September 11th Update: Later than early, but still here. Working to get some dates. Be back in a bit. September 12th Update: I didn't hear back before the end of day, but still working on it.

AlexPkSo if I order now I would get the updated version with those small revisions? Also thank you for addressing the issue that was stopping me from purchasing!

haruruI'm guessing everyone will get them. This is a pre order so I think nobody should have to change their order.
BokChoyUnrelated to the USB port issue, the design had very low error tolerances on some of the cutouts that was resulting in a higher failure rate during production. The new manufacturer is moving things around a bit to give a little more room and increase production yield. This wasn't something that affected the shipped boards, but was slowing down overall production due to the higher than ideal rejection rates. @haruru every Planck going forward should be shipped with the new PCB. If that's not the case then it means that somehow one of the older versions appeared at the warehouse and got mixed in with shipping. I won't say it's impossible because I don't have total clarity on that whole operation, but it would be incredibly unexpected.

AlexPkGood to know, but does this new revision fit on to the older (rev3) case and base plate?
bsastorShould be zero changes to the dimensions. The extra space created for the cutouts is made by tweaking things like the trace paths and such. The tolerances in PCB fabrication can be fractions of a millimeter so incredibly minute adjustments can have pretty big impacts.

AlexPkWould be great to have a case that would wrap around the USB port, simply not allowing any movement - partial reinforcement really sounds like insufficient approach.

AlexPkIs the approved pcb revision the reason for the (temporary?) removal of the PCB-Only option? (Also will the PCB-Only option be back at some point?)

AlexPkHey is September 21st still the estimated date or are we seeing any later or earlier shipment dates? Thank you!

kahboomBeen mulling over this comment. I have a feeling this is going to be the case. I feel like there should really be a small compensation for stuff like this especially when they couldn’t work things out with the manufacturer like shipment dates.

JohnspapaMight be a bit Extreme tbh. From what I remember the manufacturer has changed since the preorder went online and changes (although small) have been made to the product. I wouldn't really blame it all on them, even if they "addressed" the connector issue relatively late during the run.

hmmmisthatsoYeah that’s pretty fair. I don’t mind if there’s a delay for quality assurance. It’s just been fairly quiet when it comes to a Drop like this.

AlexPkI have been using the planck with the USB the way it is, and it's working pretty well except for the fact that some newer USB3 and sometimes USB2 plugged in upside down does not work. Will this be fixed on the devices that are currently being purchased? Are there instructions on how to solder the connector on better or is this something that has to be done by you?
