A throwing star? Do you find a lot of need for that in your EDC gear next to the caltrops and Nunchaku?
You can throw both of them but I'd say the similarity ends there. Actually, with a strike to the right area this might do more damage since it is a dense chunk of metal. You could get the bottle opener version and tie a piece of paracord around it then swing it as an impact weapon. I'd wait to see what the instructions say about possible self defense (or offense???) uses. My guess is that section will be pretty sparse.
