It came with far more than 10 springs, but I don't know what they're for. Are they meant to be used under the larger keys to give extra resistance or something? Also, where are people getting domes? Would love to try 55g, but the only site I found was quite expensive, at $70 plus shipping for enough domes for this board.

TofagerlYou can find rubber domes at ebay searching for "electrostatic rubber dome sheet". Rubber dome can be a little attached to the plate, so be careful when replacing it and with the springs.

TofagerlNizkeyboards sells sheets of domes on their website (for $15). For $70 you're looking at stuff like BKE Redux domes, which are expensive but also considered a high quality Topre alternative. As for those springs, they're meant to make the switches feel slightly heavier (Niz makes 10g and 20g variants, I think these are the 10g ones), there should be enough to cover all your alphas with a few extras.

TofagerlJust replaced my domes. I was going to replace the springs as well, but they're not the kind that goes under the sheet, but the kind that goes under the spacebar - so why do I have like 20-30 of them? Keyboard now feels fully Topre, currently using SA Pulse, and it's thocky as hell. Alu case would be the next step, I think. Or even brass!!!

TofagerlWhat weight did you get for the domes?

TofagerlThe reason for the springs is the extremely light touch of the keyboard. I got one a year ago and the quick touch increased my typing speed considerably. However, the fingers I keep over the "home row" when not actually typing would accidentally type unwanted letters, especially F and J, just from feeling that my hands were in the correct position for touch typing. So, I added the extra springs under just those 8 home row keys to give them slightly more resistance, and the problem ceased. I actually have the 84 key version of this keyboard, and it is the best keyboard I have ever used. $85 is also a good price for it.

megalonzergSo you're saying the springs actually helped? i was considering the dome swaps because I didn't think the springs would really change much since I figured you wouldn't be getting the full resistance of the spring until the key was depressed a bit (at which point you may have already actuated the switch). How do they affect the key feel.

geokenIt seems to me that the key actuates about half way down, with or without the added spring. The springs add exactly the right resistance to the home row keys so that I am not accidentally typing extra letters. I did not add them to the little finger keys since my little fingers have always been a bit weaker anyway. In my opinion, the feel of the keys did not change at all other than the added resistance, which I don't really notice consciously, but benefit from all the same. My typing speed went up from around 48 wpm up to 60+ wpm with 98% accuracy with this keyboard vs. the HP keyboard I was using before, and no hand fatigue or sore fingertips since my fingers are not moving as far, and I don't have to mash the keys down.

megalonzergThanks for the info. What weight are the domes in yours - 35 or 45? Also. are your springs 10 or 20g? The setup you describe sounds exactly like what I'd want.

megalonzergNot those springs - there came about 20-30 springs that are way too big to fit underneath the keys. I think they're replacements for the spring under the space bar, but I don't really need 30 of them.

TofagerlThe spring that goes under the space bar is the same spring that all the keys use. If yours are really too big to fit under a key, they would also be too large to fit under the space bar since the springs are round and the space bar is the same dimension from front to back as all the other keys. Here is a photo of the bag of leftover springs that came with my Plum keyboard, and a quarter to show the scale.

geokenThe keyboard came with springs and instructions for use, but not with any information about weights. I do know that it doesn't have rubber domes under the keys, but "conical springs" to push them back up. I don't know the weights or values of any of it and I couldn't find that information on their web site.
