Personally I would skip this item. I've owned a Pointer Brand Chore Coat in the past and the quality is iffy (at best). The cuts are still very traditionally southern work clothes inspired. I would buy this coat again if it were only going to be used for working, but I see a lot of guys wearing them out to bars, etc ... Do yourself a favor and just look around for any of the 100000000 chore coat style coats if you're looking for something of greater quality. I found one with flat felled seams, dense duck canvas, and overall better finishing used on Ebay.

MJSAGot any brands to recommend? I don't know enough about duck and the chore coat style to know what I should be looking for? How much should I expect to spend?

mynameismynameYeah sure! If you're going for style just look for something by Taylor Stitch, Apolis, General Quarters, Tellason ... those style jackets might cost you anywhere between 100-200 but they're much better made (the Pointer jacket is finished cheaply, bad buttonholes, single stitching). You can always find those brands on Ebay gently used, however, so take a look. All makers have measurements on their websites. I would suggest you hop on Ebay and see what the second hand market for those brands is. I've just looked, there are currently offerings from all of those brands on auction, you can maybe get lucky.
I've got a Taylor Stitch that I wear when I go out, and a Carhartt for real work. That being said, this isn't a bad deal for a jacket you're actually going to thrash about doing work ... it's not warm like the blanket lined jacket, but I would consider one for carpentry, yard work, light garage duty, etc ... it's just not up to snuff as a "steppin' out" kind of jacket the way most people (I think) are buying them nowadays.
If you're looking for a work jacket just get a used USA made carhartt ... I'd say that the fit of this jacket is just as boxy as a Carhartt. Newer stuff is just as tough, but made in Mexico. You can find HEAPS of good used Carhartt (some old enough to be USA made) on Ebay as well.
PHOA YEA I ALMOST FORGOT! The dang thing will shrink on you so BEWARE
