What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

silent switches have a uniform dense rubber dampener inside the stem, should feel much better than O-rings or landing pads.
i'm getting the Silent black switches, i just like the fact that they almost sound like Topres, and all you hear is the damped thock, im really getting tired of the clacking.
One of my keyboards has a Gateron Red switch and they are REALLY smooth, but yeah it wobbles a bit compared to my Cherry Brown. Aren't Silent Blacks a bit heavy/too tiring to work with during long sessions?
The cherry blacks are pretty heavy, but it's really smooth compared to the reds. Gateron blues are fairly light compared to Cherry blacks and after trying it out for some speed tests I was getting fatigued on the Gateron switches.
I'm just sitting here pushing down the Cherry blacks and it's just not satisfying, it doesn't feel like the spring is strong enough to push your finger back up but it is still hard to push down.
