original is fine and all, but there are plenty of decent to pretty darn good copy cats out there that sell for half the price: https://www.fasttech.com/products/2130/10007977/1702402 i own the silver edition and it is very nice. no complaints and good quality. still, a lot of money for what still is merely a pen :-)
CeremonyYou can buy anything fake these days it seems. In the case of the link you shared, they are illegally selling a patented product. I would implore you to consider the impact of supporting illegal products like this in general. But the choice is individually up to you.
We work with local artists and inventors, like the startup company in Canada who invented the Polar pen, because it encourages local geeks to bring cool new things into the world (besides helping the local economy).
Hey everyone -- We've had to cancel a few orders from Australia and Canada, as we've been informed that these magnets are banned from import by those countries. I'm sorry that information was not given up front before the drop started, it was an oversight on my part.
Better question: will this pen work in the several minutes of three G immediately preceding zero G?
You know, for all those astronauts who think, "Oh crap! I just had a great idea! Where's my pen?" at T-1 seconds.
Loonybin0I really wish Chris Hadfield hadn't retired because his office isn't too far away from our HQ. If anyone has any other ins for space testing opportunities, message me.
NanoMagneticsHey everyone -- Thanks to @NanoMagnetics, we've been able to make an even lower price available. We hope this will make it an appealing value and help it to reach the lowest drop point.
Got this on Kickstarter in the gold and it is utter crap. It is difficult to write with, the coating rubs off in the hand and the magnets chip. DO NOT BUY!
jammy97To add to this: I've had mine for over a year; I barely write with it, as the cartridges that came with it and that I got for it are .5mm and it doesn't show up well. I have 3 chipped magnets and the only reason more haven't chipped is that I don't use the pen very much.
It's really fun to play with and a neat toy for your desk at work. That's about it.
Honestly, this thing seems quite useless on its own.
I expected the video to prove that the description sucked. Instead, it proved the description was over-reaching. "This means that they can be chained together to create a compass for perfect circles"... haha. Massdrop is going to have to explain that one. Show me a gyroscope too (without buying 90% of the parts elsewhere)
