I believe Porsche Design has always been a separate entity from the car brand and not some licensed sunglasses and watches gimmick. I don’t know if it’s still the case, but the watches used to be made by Eterna. Cool stuff.

DiecyclingUsed to be eterna. Now they have their own atelier/manufacture. Also used to be not owned by Porsche but now is. I have one eterna produced cockpit titanium watch and it’s awesome.

DiecyclingThe very first PD watches were made by Orfina—the now classic early-70s PVD-coated cushion case 7750-powered chronographs. Pure sex!

DiecyclingPorsche Design is owned by Porsche SE since 2007, so the connection to the cars is there nowadays. (Porsche SE is the majority owner of VW Group, which owns Porsche AG, the car company... confusing corporate structure, but that's how it is! ;-) ) Porsche Design is actually responsible for the design of many of the Porsche-branded accessories, including the Porsche-branded watches... They are even featured at the PD webshop, but as a separate product line "Porsche Design for Porsche"!
