Established in 1972 as a subsidiary of the legendary Porsche automobile company, Porsche Design has a reputation for quality and precision. As a matter of fact, the company was the first to create a matte black watch, and the first to make a chronograph entirely of titanium Read More

Let's give credit to those PD watches that were made by Eterna, they are now collector items and rather hard to find.

I did not say THESE are made by Eterna, my point was that there are rather quality PD pieces. Eterna designed PD watches have the Eterna written on the back.

ralaciI'm not sure if Porsche Design would allow the Eterna brand name to be written in the ⌚🤔 But now that you made a comment regarding history, I'll make it clear for others with useful ℹ️ because right before I read here and therefore I had to research, I was really the same, now knowing if these ⌚ were made by Eterna or not. This article has the years when Porsche Design was related with IWC, then Eterna, then they went for their own: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/pd-turns-40-a-brief-history-of-porsche-design Here's an article regarding the separation from Eterna https://watch-insider.com/news/eterna-longer-charge-produce-porsche-design-watches-today-porsche-design-group-officially-announced-longer-continue-partnership-eterna/ And this article has the 📆 when these Chronotimer were released, which is 2️⃣0️⃣1️⃣5️⃣ so it's likely these ⌚ were not made by Eterna https://luxuryes.com/2015/06/porsche-design-introduces-chronotimer-series-1/

I own a PD watch for around 10 years. Not 7750 based but 2893 with a Chrono module from Dubois-Depraz. Works like a charm still.

One could buy this nice Porsche Design Automatic Chronometer for $1,399 or, one could instead buy 15.7 Ingersoll Grafton Quartz Chronographs for the same price. Just think about that for a moment...

I'm not entirely anti-Ingersoll (I purchased the first one MD offered) but, I doubt I'd purchase another at this point. They work, they're just not that appealing to me. As to the Porsche Design above, it's name is both a blessing and a curse. To those in the know, it's an excellent watch--worth every penny, especially at the price MD is asking for it...

Those who see it as Porsche watch for Porsche owners looking to flash the brand, are missing the point; this isn't a BMW Ice watch. However, comparing retail prices in the $4,750-ish range, my first choice would be a Speedmaster Professional, hands-down:

That's not to say a Speedmaster is a better watch, frankly it comes up short by comparison (manual wind vs automatic; hesalite crystal vs sapphire), but for people who are crazy about Speedmasters (like people who are crazy about Porsche Design) it's a matter of preference. On the other hand, if MD was selling four-thousand dollar Speedmasters for $1,400, I'd be wearing one, rather than just writing about them.
